suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I hate wondering and worrying as to just how many elderly, disabled and vulnerable people have had a very similar experience as me though? Some of them maybe not capable of being as determined as I was in keeping on with insisting upon getting it when everyone else in my Age Group was doing so?

Based on my own experience I have only got even bigger doubts now as to whether any of the proudly proclaimed Govt statistics can possibly be accurate and ever be trusted in to be true? The Targets that they keep on claiming to have met just don't match up to the number of folk in the Priority Groups all around the UK who are going public on their struggles to get their first or their second jab.

message 3502: by Brass Neck (new)

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Weirdly, I had to schlepp over to Sheffield to get Mum her first jab. Her 2nd was due yesterday and I was all geared up to go when she rang at the start of the week to say her GP was sending someone round to do the jab at home. I just think that different GPs have different staffing, standards and perceptions of risk?

Post Soviet (postsoviet) | 551 comments Just couple more thoughts on all this covid & vaccines when reading news with endless updates, of course all is safe and approved.
Homeless people given johnson&johnson, folk over 60s - astrazeneca, the rest (mothers and people able to work) - phizer & moderna. Mind you, I'm not conspiracy theories supporter (my work place is full of panickers and bullshit makers), but leaves you wondering sometimes...

Anyway, after healthy conclusion and general verdict - **** politics, business, pharmacy combined, we decided to relax and be thankful for still being alive. So, we went for a trip to the mountains (beautiful Gleniff Horseshoe drive) on Friday, and yesterday finished allotment digging, manuring and vegetable beds making. Late this year, as spring was unexpectedly cold (blame Putin and climate change). Regardless already having healthy radish and lettuce in polytunnel.

Glad all are well here. My prayers and best wishes (what else can I do?) to Lez.

Post Soviet (postsoviet) | 551 comments Talking of food. Replaced our old 16 years ceramic hob cooker with new Beko induction hob one. Chose this based on customers and experts (honourable 3rd place) reviews. And price, 600 euros, includes shipping and chucking away old one, very cheap. Connected myself. But good looking, simple and... works well so far. This morning grilled pepperoni pizza with good result. mmm just finished it.

edit: Any thoughts of induction hob owners here?

Might get one of these

Runs on LPG gas, which would suit us.

First Sunday since beginning of February I haven't had to go and feed Calves at 8am and 4pm. Been at it for 7 days a week for 3 months, nice to be finished.

I still can't get my Head around it though, Val? - finding myself being put into such a position by them where I really had no other choice but to keep on with persisting in repeatedly reminding my GP Surgery, twice a week for 6 whole weeks by Phone and Email, until they finally decided to give me the Covid Vac.

I honestly don't think that I would have got it this side of Summer if I hadn't kept at it and pushed so hard for it? And I really don't like that they made me feel like I must surely be being a nuisance to them at a time when I know that so many other Patients will also trying to get in contact with them to set up much-needed Consultation, Diagnosis & Treatment Appointments. I kept telling them just how much I hated having to keep on with reminding them that I was still shielding - and that my M&D were having to continue to shield as well because of me even though they have, thankfully, had both of their jabs now.

I know just how much my Mum would so love to be able to go to a local Park to have a Takeaway Coffee with a couple of friends - but she hasn't dared to risk doing this while I have still been waiting for my turn to be vaccinated. She is insisting on holding out now until my second jab saying that she's already waited this long (almost 17 months now of continual shielding) - but at her age I am very aware that time isn't on her side and I really don't want her to have to miss out, just because of me, on being able to do so ASAP.

I don't know about their range of Cookers, Post, but I bought a friend a Beko Tumble Dryer back in 2015 when I was helping him to set up in his new Flat - and I loved using it so much when I stayed over with him that I also bought one for our Home as well and then one for my Godson too when he went off to University a couple of years ago ;o>

I really like the Beko Brand and they always seem to get excellent Ratings and Reviews. I've also bought a Beko Tall Freezer for the Garage - in March of last year when the first UK Lock-down started - so that we could buy in and store extra supplies while we have been shielding and having to occasionally bulk buy while being totally reliant on Home Delivery Services.

I can't be doing with Cushions either so I'm afraid I'm not going to be of any help to you on any decision-making, Collette.

I must admit that they can often look really nice (in moderation) in all of those aspirational Home Interior Pictures that you see in Magazines and online - as they often add a lovely extra splash of colour and a far more finished and stylish look to the rest of the Furniture, Fittings and Furnishings.

They hold no appeal to me though because I have never known quite what to do with them other than have them on display and I never know where to put them when you don't want/need them to Hand.

I've stayed at Holiday Cottages and B&Bs where you have to keep on going from Chair to Chair and Bed to Bed removing handfuls of them at a time - and there is only the Floor to try to neatly line them up on so that you don't fall over them walking around within small Rooms.

One favourite Holiday Cottage of ours in Norfolk belonged to an Interior Designer and it was absolutely fabulous - the ultimate dream of a perfect Home. The only downside to it for me was that there were Cushions everywhere - LOL!!! - and I mean everywhere! I went round counting them one day and discovered that between the three Bedrooms, Sitting Room, Lounge, and Dining Room there was a grand total of FIFTY-SEVEN Cushions!!!

They were all pretty enough to look at ... but nevertheless I developed a chronic case of Cushionitis every time that we arrived through trying to find nooks and crannies in every Room to tuck them all away in or spare Chairs to pile them up on ... and then having to remember where to put them all back in position again when we left at the end of the fortnight ... ARRRGGGHHH!!! ;oO

And that is what has always put me off from having any Cushions here other than just the two on the Sofa that my Mum uses to support her Back whenever she watches TV ;o>

message 3524: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22144 comments I don't mind them on couches and I always have a cushion at my back. But I've never understood why you would have them on a bed. When I go to bed, I just want to get in - not spend half an hour looking for somewhere to put all the cushions. Do you have to have another piece of furniture in the bedroom just to hold the cushions overnight? One of my daughters is a cushion fanatic and her bed always looks like something out of a magazine. And the cost - it seems it's nothing to pay £125 for a cushion according to Good Housekeeping.

message 3525: by Collette (new)

Collette | 6187 comments £125 for a cushion? That's mad. And there was me grumbling at having to pay this 20 percent thing on AliExpress bringing the price of my 5 cushion covers up to just over £15. I like them because they dress the bed. I have my 2 dress pillows (along with the 4 we sleep on), 2 nice cushions and a throw.
Re what Suzy was saying about the amount of cushions, I think we have 10 in use at the moment. The bed 2, 2 on the spare room futon, 2 on my bedroom chair (for show only, not for sitting on) and 4 on the living room sofas. I've got cushions piled (along with bed throws) neatly at each side of the wardrobe, but won't be buying any more of either. Cushion covers though are another thing...

message 3526: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I'd keep a very close Eye on them if I were you, Collette! ;oO

I've heard rumours that Cushions can start breeding like Bunny Rabbits every time you turn the Lights out! - LOL!!! ;o>
