The strange thing about the idiocy that is Brexit is the fact that it's easier and cheaper for two French residents and their dog to travel between the EU and the UK, and vice versa than it is for two UK Residents and their dog to travel between the UK and EU, and vice versa. That's if they're moving back and forth three of four times a year like we do.

A fantastic new Recycling Scheme has just been set up by TerraCycle® ;o>

They have just created a free Recycling Programme for any brand of empty Medicine Blister Packs. This is a sustainability initiative which will enable billions of Medicine Blister Packs to be recycled instead of spending a lifetime in Landfill.

Once collected the empty Blister Packs are separated by Polymer type and cleaned (if necessary). The material is then extruded into Plastic Pellets which are sold on to to manufacturing Companies who produce end-products - completing the journey of recycling.

These end products may include Outdoor Furniture and Decking, Plastic Shipping Pallets, Watering Cans, Storage Containers and Bins, Tubes for Construction Applications, Flooring Tiles, Playground Surface Covers and much more.

TerraCycle® has created this Scheme through a partnership with Sanofi, a French Pharmaceutical Company and maker of products such as Buscopan and Dulcolax, and is now providing Drop Off Points for Consumers at many Independent Pharmacies across the UK.

The Superdrug Pharmacy Chain will also be participating - with the initiative aiming to reach at least 400 of their stores within this first year. Superdrug are currently supporting Marie Curie with each empty Blister Pack that gets recycled as part of the ‘Little Packs, Big Impact’ Scheme. So? - it's easy and it's free - and it also has the double whammy of recycling AND earning Rewards that will help to support a fantastic Charity as well ;o>

Just find your nearest participating Superdrug Pharmacy or Local Pharmacy on the Interactive Map and drop off your empty Medicine Blister Packs during their opening hours.

theDuke | 6492 comments Been a blinkin' long time since i posted anything on here..namely cos i've been practically dormant over lock down UK. Buuutt...at long last...i've had a email from the summerhouse people, asking me if i still want the Haven summerhouse i first ordered in February...last year!

"YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS PUUURRLLLLEEEAASSSEEE!"

It now looks as if i might finally get the bloody thing next month! Thus, as the weather is particularly fine presently....off i gooo out in the garden to remember where i left off and finish the decking i half built for it. A few days work should do it, and a lick thinned down creosote to protect the wood.....am it'll be lift off.

Lock down life is finally coming to and end...whoohoo! Well...that's assuming the gov finds all those P cases in London...or we all be locked back up in our houses again....groan!

Craig White | 6727 comments to quote talking heads, 'don't worry about the government' - the next wave (and make no mistake, it's coming!) will be driven by much younger people becoming infected on a large scale - this will be triggered by idiots who act like it's all over and other idiots who think they're bulletproof after 2 vaccinations - there wont be such a devastating death count this time, but enough severe illness for the lockdown to be rolled out again.

i hope not, but you know people and their capacity to **** things up!

theDuke | 6492 comments But you've got Matt Smith's doctor to look forward to. I didn't appreciate his take on the infamous timer traveler at the time....but he turned out to be quite good....and those episodes with his 'wife' River Song (usually introducing herself by shooting off whatever apparel the doc has got on head at the time!) are always a hoot.

Toay's plans...a quick shower, catch up on last night's Corrie then I'm gonna relax. Looking forward to some of D's home-made Baileys tonight and Jason Bourne on dvd.

Tomorrow we have to go into Cahors to collect a five course 'finish the preparation at home' meal, since dining out is still not possible. Hopefully it will be good, even though we can't actually remember what we ordered!

Post Soviet (postsoviet) | 551 comments Was supposed to get my first astrazeneca jab today, wife got one yesterday, light fever during the night, now she's fine. When in vaccination centre she asked about me - is it alright having astrazeneca with my blood clots history, still having one in a thigh, deep vain. Oh, absolutely! She's been told, it's fine, ok, nothing to worry about, there is little chance of one in hundreds millions only gets minor complications.
This morning, before going for a jab, went to see my GP (really smart man whom I really trust) with the same question, just to be sure. He checked my illness history and said:
No way with astrazeneca on my case, he will arrange pfizer vaccine for me in a couple days.
Read on local news - "Pfizer and Moderna vaccines safe for pregnant people, major study confirms".
Might be good for me too then? Yep, things seems bit chaotic on here...

message 3498: by Collette (new)

Collette | 6187 comments Good luck, Post. Glad for you that you checked. I got my first one on Wednesday night (Phizer). Apart from my arm being a wee bit sore at the jag bit in bed that night, I've been fine. Vaccination Centre ( sports centre 5 minutes round the road from my house) seems to be ran very smoothly with pleasant happy staff. Roll on jab 2.

message 3499: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I was rather surprised and very disappointed too about just how hard I really had to politely push and repeatedly remind my GP that I also ought to be getting my first jab (the AZ one).

It took me 6 weeks of quite un-necessary worry and stress before I finally got through to directly talking to my own Dr and told her that I had had enough of being fobbed off with so many different Email and Letter and Phone Call excuses and wanted her to give me a definite answer as to when I would be getting it ... and only then was I told that they had still not put any plans at all into place to do any Home Visits, that they planned to be rethinking this at a Practice Meeting sometime at the end of June, and so it would probably be late July or even mid-August before any Covid Vac Home Visits were going to be set up?!!

I then had to decide whether to accept this or to stand for myself and not take no for an answer. As it is I've been having (my usual kinds) of falls all year but haven't been able to risk going to A&E for any X-rays even when I've known I should-of done. And a Neighbour, who is a Nurse, has very kindly come around to help relocate my Shoulder and to reset several broken Fingers for me over the last 14 months as well.

So I had no choice but to politely stand firm and tell them that they couldn't do this as it was against the Govt Guidelines to refuse to vaccinate anyone who was entitled to be vaccinated - and someone who is also registered as being Clinically Vulnerable as well - and I had to make it very clear to them that it was also extremely unfair that I was apparently being excluded on the grounds of disability and immobility from being vaccinated at the same time as everyone else in my own Age Group across the UK ... and what do you know?! ... they then suddenly and quite miraculously managed to find the time to set up a Covid Vac Home Appointment for me the very next day?!!

I had a rotten Headache all of the day after - but it was bearable enough to me because it was nowhere near as bad as having one of my occasional Migraines. Then on the 3rd day I woke up to discover my Eyesight in both Eyes had inexplicably gone extremely blurry and it stayed like that, regardless of having my Glasses on or off, for 5 days. I could cope with just about everything else but couldn't read any words on a Page or a Screen and was advised not to even try to use my Laptop.

Apparently this blurred Vision is a rare but nevertheless known about Side Effect that has to be reported. It completely cleared up on day six just as suddenly as it had started off - and apart from having a slightly unstable Temperature (feeling hot, then cold, then hot again for a few days), and a small tender spot in the Muscle of my Arm where the Needle went in, that's all that there was to it for me, thankfully ;o>
