Lez, freezers sold out before toilet roll did!
I ended up buying a fridge freezer because that was all that was readily available and have spent most of today making up meals to go into the freezer.

Lez | 7490 comments Found a table-top freezer that’s just what I need. Cost rather a lot though.
Someone from Edinburgh on ‘Knitting Paradise’ says her local waste food collection van has been back to the depot 3 times with all the excess food from the hoarders. Disgusting.

message 304: by [deleted user] (new)

Well done, Lez :)
What I've found this past week is that the only waste I've picked up from stores is general waste which has come from the litter bins rather than the usual bakery, produce, dairy and meat waste that is picked up on a daily basis, due to people panic buying everything and anything they can get their hands on. How much these people are throwing away at home is probably a different matter.

Val H. | 22141 comments I'm going to have a quiet day today. Among my friends, I am the Ticketmistress and all tickets are purchased with my credit card and then they repay me. Yesterday was spent trying to co-ordinate what everyone wanted to do about cancelled productions. My phone and email were running hot contacting everyone. The choices are (generally): returning their ticket as a tax-deductible donation, exchanging into one of the remaining 2020 productions (assuming they go ahead), receiving credit towards the 2021 season, or obtaining a refund. I buy for 6 people for the Melbourne Theatre Company, 4 for Opera Australia, 3 for Victorian Opera and 5 for the Malthouse Theatre. Everyone's circumstances are different so I let them all decide what they wanted to do. Most are happy to leave the money with the organisations as a donation towards the artists and the companies but one wants single performance refunds from the MTC and OA (about £75 combined) and one wants one MTC performance refunded (about £56) so that will be my job on Monday - phoning or emailing the companies to effect the refunds. With touring artists, I have tickets later in the year for Bon Iver, Cowboy Junkies, the Milk Carton Kids and Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja. If they don't come, I will definitely be seeking a refund. John Prine cancelled just before the current crisis and the money was refunded immediately so I don't expect any problems.

I saw him about this time last year and was amazed by his skipping/dancing across the stage. He had more energy than I do! I think the explanation given for this cancellation was hip or knee problems (???)

I'm with Post. I wage a constant war against dandelions otherwise I'd have no grass at all. And I've never seen bees on them either. Bees are well provided for in my garden with plenty lavender, heliotrope and other flowering plants.

yeah, worst kind of are those sprouting from stony driveway, with particular nasty crooked multiple roots. Been advised use boiled water with a salt for a better effect. Or small dosage (just a few pills) of HCL. I know I sound like an Auschwitz Commandant...
Also, flowers takes only small part in our garden, we got strawberries, cabbage, beetroot, garlic, onions, beans, peas etc.

Apparently the multiple roots occur when the original root isn't removed cleanly and new bits sprout from there. And, of course, the hardest place to get them out entirely is between the paving cracks... :o(

I had an coiffure appt last Wed which obviously didn't happen. Attacked the back and sides with a little beard trimmer yesterday; Mrs Neck hasn't passed comment nor LOLed yet so must've done a passable job. One of our cleaners, an ex-hairdresser, used to cut my hair but I’ve been cutting my own since 1990. Succombed (!) to the hospital hairdresser once last year though. You just need some proper hairdressing scissors from Boots and a bit of courage. Perhaps Mrs Neck could help.

Hi Post. This is ours...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exercise-B...

I originally wanted a Reebok bike (had a belting one a few years ago). Was planning to order either the ZR8 or GB50 from House Of Fraser, but when I went to do so on Thursday afternoon, they had both sold out.

I need it because of my love of cider/lager/wine, and eating rubbish. 😇

I think the pound note was introduced from decimalisation....as you're right, there was a £1 note 'til, 1983/84 when the £1 coin was introduced. Mum tells me they had the imperial 20 shilling note, prior to 1971. But she rarely saw those, back then...but would often have the 10 shilling note (50p!) instead. Her earnings as a pay clark for the MOD in the late '60s, was 100 shillings a week!

There wasn't a 20 shilling note. It was a pound note. Sovereigns weren't used as currency after 1914. They were minted again as bullion coins from 1957 (I think) but, as Britain had abandoned the gold standard in 1931, they would be worth much more than £1.

Val H. | 22141 comments I did my first ever on-line food order today after Coles told me I had been identified as meeting their criteria for special consideration (this translates to I am old). I had to modify it three times as I remembered forgotten items but hopefully the (free) delivery will arrive on Wednesday with most of the ordered items. We are not desperate but if we can avoid having to shop for bread, milk, tissues, etc, we may as well take advantage of it.

And now Australia Post is offering free delivery of prescriptions so that's another concern taken care of.

My daughter's company have announced they will be cutting back their work by 50% and salaries will also be cut by 50%. I think this is a smart move as it makes them eligible for Government assistance and employees will get paid a subsidy of about £750 a fortnight. Doubtless there will be fine print (e.g. if her partner is still employed, which he is at the moment) but it's up to the firms themselves to apply for the assistance. Another good thing as it frees up Centrelink (Social Security) offices for people who have lost their jobs or their source of income (artists, etc.) completely. As she works in HR, she's going to be busy!
