Brass Neck | 3979 comments Biden's not a great orator and he's bloody old but another 4 years of the alternative is unthinkable? At least he doesn't think it's OK for 'good people' and the largely white police forces to shoot, choke and kill black kids and he probably wouldn't recommend injecting yourself with disinfectant on live TV. And he's not a hugely vain, orange, lying, racist, pussy-grabbing sack of amoral crap. And yet he may still not win.

Yeah, why let the cops shoot black kids when they seem to want to shoot each other down in huge numbers every year?

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/...

You can go through these for all years. I don't know how far back they go. Bear in mind black americans make up just under 13% of the population (whites a bit over 60% - both figures excluding hispanics), yet accounted for over 45% of identified homicides in 2018. One year I saw (forget which) there were actually more black than white homicides.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histori...

As for the police, 65% are white (non-hispanic), which is in-line with the overall population. The problem is what, exactly?

https://datausa.io/profile/soc/police...

It's usually the case that majority black cities would have a higher proportion of black officers.

Why didn't the shooting of Philando Castile in 2016 provoke BLM inspired riots/demonstrations? Probably because the officer in question was hispanic, so they couldn't pin a racism tag on it, despite the incident being a far more clear-cut case of police malpractice than George Floyd's death

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shootin...

Floyd's autopsy showed he had high (potentially lethal) levels of two drugs in his system at the time of the incident, and that his heart was weak due to years of drug abuse. There is also leaked bodycam footage (which I haven't seen) which according to a black former police officer YouTuber shows him saying he couldn't breathe even while he was sitting in his own car when the officers first approached him. Did he deserve to die; of course not, neither did Tony Timpa, who was pinned down for 13 minutes by officers in Dallas in 2016.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments I don't disagree with the majority of what you said but I don't think any of it negates my view of Trump. Yes black on black violence and murder is unacceptably high in the USA though the reasons for that are unlikely to be just that black males are born with murderous intent or is that too 'woke'.

65% is a majority of the police, no? If you add in hispanics who are, last time I looked, not black that'll be an overwhelming majority and, while there will be notable exceptions not that I can think of any offhand, it appears to be white officers who do the excessive lethal force on black people in the USA and get away with it. I am reasonable enough to see, with a very limited knowledge of the situation, that it would be difficult to prosecute any officer for the shooting of Breonna Taylor because her partner appears to fired the first shot (though whether the subsequent firing of a hail of police bullets from 3 guns was reasonable I have my doubts). The fault seems to be with the notion and use of no-knock warrants executed by plain clothes, probably white, officers in black neighbourhoods in a country where ownership of guns in the home is a constitutional right - who thinks that's always going to go well?

"It's usually the case that majority black cities would have a higher proportion of black officers." - but it'll still be a minority and if the majority cop culture in that city's force is institutionally racist then what power do black cops have to intervene and call out their colleagues' excessive force and selective brutality without jeopardising their career progression, job and possibly life if their colleagues choose not to provide backup in a dangerous situation?

Don't know about Mr Castile, you may be right but one exception doesn't exempt the generally dismissive attitudes of some/many white US police officers and the impunity with which they kill black citizens and GET AWAY WITH IT.

Whatever George (let's dignify him with his full name) Floyd's pre-existing physical and possibly mental health conditions having a white police officer kneel with his full weight on his neck for nearly 9 minutes was the direct cause of his death and none of the cop's colleagues intervened despite the pleas of the victim and the probably black bystanders - the cop appeared to my 'woke' eyes to be enjoying his unfettered exercise of legal and physical power over someone deemed unworthy of basic human consideration.

Still, ALL lives matter eh? Four more years, four more years.......

Really? ... I've always liked putting things together using those ;o>

I'm not so enthusiastic about Cam Locks though - as when they fit and click perfectly into place it creates an incredibly satisfying feeling - but I've been caught out by quite a few cheaply made very soft metal ones that have broken far too easily on me ;o<

And waiting on replacements ordered off eBay becomes such a very long and incredibly frustrating time to have to deal with when you got the best part of a really huge piece of Furniture still spread out in bits on the Floor all laid out ready for assembly.

You think building them is hard, try taking them apart, without losing any of the parts and without damaging any of them!

The whole lot later got shipped to France, rebuilt and reused over there.

I'm very proud of that:-)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... rather confused by an Amazon Order that I've been waiting on since early August now.

It's for a set of Dishes for the Kitchen. I paid £12.50 for them with Free Delivery thrown in, even though they weren't in Stock at the time, as I really wanted them - and have been sent several Email Updates since then, apologising for still not having them in Stock, and continuing to delay them for even longer and longer.

In the meantime, while still out of Stock, Amazon updated the Listing to wanting £26 for pre-orders while another Seller turned up wanting £18.72 plus £9 p&p. Amazon kept offering me up a Link to cancel the Order - but I decided to wait it out instead for them to do it if they couldn't manage to restock them.

If I could possibly still get them for £12.50 then I wasn't going to pass up such a great bargain - as they currently retail everywhere elsewhere for at least £7 each if sold separately and this set is made up of 5 of these Glass Ovenware Dishes plus their Lids.

I rechecked on them again last night and discovered that Amazon had just added a single 'Like New' Warehouse Listing for £16.90 that was probably a Return or had a Warehouse damaged Box - and so, rather than wait any longer, I decided to buy it ... BUT? ... literally just a mere 10 minutes after I had done so and then went into my Account to cancel my original Order I suddenly ... finally ... got sent a Confirmation of Dispatch Email on my first Order of the brand new Set! ;oO

Well, I immediately cancelled the second Order, of course, and then clicked on the Listing again to discover it was still being listed as temporarily out of Stock and Amazon now want £23 for pre-orders!

I've been wondering all day if they really are coming? - but they are showing up as Dispatched and so they must be, mustn't they?

However when I click on Dispatch details it gets a bit weird because apparently they are coming on Friday ... but coming from Amazon in Spain?!! And I've never ordered anything from Amazon.uk and had it come from another country's Amazon before now?!!

Has anyone else had this happen? They apparently left Sevilla, ES late last night - and then arrived at and left Guarroman, ES first thing this morning?!

It's a very nice and an extremely useful set of Pyrex Ovenware ... but I'm at a complete loss to understand why my £12.50 Order has seemingly been redirected like this and is now coming all the way from Amazon in Spain?!! ;oO

I'm not sure whether to dare to believe in it actually arriving! - LOL?!! ;o>
