Today, I shall mostly be...
Minor maintenance - the post office, the dentist and the dry-cleaner's. And maybe the upholsterer if he's still there.

Went into Asda yesterday for the usual weekly shop and there were only a handful of bags of pasta left, and I didn't see any spaghetti either. It'll be the bread next. 🙄
Attending my hospital clinic appointment with some trepidation. The docs said it's important I go, but it's entirely my decision. Aarrgghh!
Today - preparing to leave for our house in FranceTomorrow - driving from the Forest of Dean to Rouen
Sunday - driving from Rouen to stay overnight with our friends in Salviac
Monday - driving the short distance from Salviac to Catus, getting the wood burner going to warm the house up and then going shopping
Tuesday - going to Catus market to buy lots of cheese
Mulling over an idea for a movie franchise, 'The Planet Strikes Back', based on the premise that coronavirus is a ploy by the earth to reduce pollution and overconsumption by making us all stay at home...The title seems a bit familiar, though. ;o)
Behaving like a proper Tesco driver and dragging the job out.
Well, it's double bubble today :)

Coming soon to country near you.

My sister was on the train from Harrogate to York last Friday. It's a very busy route and there are usually lots of Chinese tourists going to York. She said the train was barely half-full and not a Chinese face to be seen.
Sera69 wrote: "Isabella wrote: "Mulling over an idea for a movie franchise, 'The Planet Strikes Back', based on the premise that coronavirus is a ploy by the earth to reduce pollution and overconsumption by makin..."The 'social credit' system is already leading down that path - https://www.wired.co.uk/article/china...
Worse, there are signs a similar thing could emerge in the free world if the authorities don't watch out, courtesy of your friendly neighbourhood social media tech companies. I heard recently of a guy who attempted to buy a coffee in the US, but his card was declined. The shop, it turned out, was using a payments system run by facebook, who had previously blackballed this guy for posting political opinions that facebook didn't agree with.
Gives the lie to the myth, "If you haven't done anything wrong, you don't have anything to fear."Today, I'm off to Tesco for our weekly shop. (Provided that I'm allowed to buy what I want, of course). Maybe I won't be using my points card, as I feel increasingly uneasy about giving them my data for very little return...

(Think of the number of school children that are now active terrorists for wanting a nicer world and planet. Their days off will have been noted.) We are slowly heading into a new dark ages, at the very time we need cooperation, communication and freedom we are being cut off and isolated through "patriotism" and "security" and like wise ethoses, ethosi? Ethosises?
Sorry. Up Britannia and report the sneezers! Forward with Boris and the truth committees!
(should my car be found abandoned, i would like to note for the record, i have no financial woes or unwieldy skeletons nor any doubts about my continued desire for existence...)
sweltering under a tropical sun.i'm lying.
b.t.w., gordon, are those P.H.D. students - y'know Proficiency in Hobo-ology Diploma?
Entertaining a neighbour's friend this pm. I've met her once - she's nice enough but we've nothing in common. A lot of people think that if I live on my own and can't get out, I must be lonely. Not so, I like my own company, though I do get bored..

Wondering why my cactus is flowering...? (No, not a euphemism.) I don't know much about cacti but I'm pretty sure this particular one isn't s'posed to flower during it's dormant phase (I haven't given it any water all winter).

I keep myself busy with projects...seems to be my Raison d’etre these days.
Anyhoo..on that note.....ordered some timber for me new decking area today....and have begun marking out/prepping the ground for it. At 25 squares metres, it's a large area....so i'll construct the framework in sections, to be joined up later on site.
Oh....and I've mounted a post box on me front porch....namely cos we seem to be getting our mail delivered by some new postal workers of late, who aren't aware that we've a large plastic box down by our drive entrance for our mail. Another job to sort for a later time!
Not attending events at Glasgow’s wonderful ‘Aye Write’ book festival, which has been abruptly cancelled after only one day, due to the number of participants who have pulled out due to pesky virus concerns.
Just finished watching "Return To Horror High". That's 90 odd minutes of my life I'm not getting back!

As it happens, that's exactly what we heard, Lez. :-)
No sightings though. :-(
Twiddling my thumbs and feeling like a pariah, having been informed I ‘don’t need to ‘ come into work tonight as a colleague I was on shift with last Wednesday has reported a cough which she thinks is probably just a cold.
Repeating my entry of March 4 - to the dry-cleaner's to drop off a doona and pick up a travelling rug, the upholsterer's to collect my newly covered (in old gold velvet no less!) footstool and the charity shop to get rid of some books. After that it'll be turning over the compost. 28 degrees here to day and getting hotter right up until the weekend.
Thinking back to my post of March 4, it was only 14 days ago. On that occasion I had to go round the block three times in search of a parking space and wound up two blocks away and walking to the dry cleaner's. Likewise the upholsterer's - I had to circle round and park in a side street. Today, you could have kicked a football down the street and not hit anyone. Parked outside the door of the dry cleaner's. The charity shop next door has closed because it's run by older volunteers and they weren't going to put anyone at risk. The large sign which said "Please do not leave donations" was of course ignored and bags of goods were spilling from the doorway over the footpath. The upholsterer had rung earlier on to check I was coming today because he thought he might not be open much longer. The footstool is lovely and her gave me 10% off for cash payment! he said because he works on his own he feels safe enough but, in uncertain times, people aren't willing to commit to having work done. And, once again, I could park right outside his door.
even some of the kilmarnock population have been observing the 'good advice on coronavirus, for jakeys, junkies and the hard of thinking' handbook, but generally acting like a town that'll be devastated by the virus, and then wonder 'how did that happen?'
From noon (French time) we've been figuring out what we need to do to be allowed outside of the house without being fined if stopped by the gendarmes. We have to print out a Government form, complete it with our names, ages and our address. We then have to select which of the five allowable reasons for being out apply and tick the box. Then we sign and date the form, and we have to ensure we have appropriate ID and also the completed form with us when we go out.
We have to do this every time we go out so if I go shopping in the morning and take the dog out in the afternoon that's two forms I have to complete. I'm now expecting panic buying of printer paper.
Thankfully, only two of the reasons would normally apply to us, walking the dog (but only locally) is allowed and essential shopping is allowed, which includes cigarettes apparently as tobacconists are on the list of shops allowed to remain open. SO our local Bar-Tabac can sell us cigarettes and newspapers but not a cup of coffee.
Travelling back to the UK is not on the list of allowable reasons to be out of the house though so we're not sure how we're going to get back:-)
Su's plan is just to write 'travelling back to the UK' on the form by hand and then arguing if we get stopped. So if I don't post for a while I'm probably in a French prison.
Today I shall mostly be figuring out how to install remote access on my computer so that I can work from home. Sigh. But first a large cup of (freshly ground) coffee to help me comes to terms with waking up to discover it’s not all just a bad dream.
Waiting for district nurse to check blood pressure and take some blood. No doubt trailing the virus in her wake.
