The two farm cats who've adopted us over the last twenty odd years have been named Polly and Molly successively.

Our neighbours always have two all black cats - Golly and Molly. We are just getting to know version 3.0 after the surviving partner Mr Golly 2.0 departed this world late last year.

My first was an all-black - I'd walked down an adjacent street and stopped to stroke a cat when an urchin (I lived deep in the heart of Grimsby then) said, "D'yer like cats mister?" and told me of a house nearby which had a litter going for nowt - chosen after we chatted to the owner when I realised I'd acquired a kitten on my shoulder; she climbed up me without my noticing so I said we'd have that one. Called her Tyke (objectionable fellow in Yorkie) and went off to buy requisite cat stuff only to find she'd pooped and peed on it for good measure on the new carpet. She was that soft you could do anything with her - I used to walk round and even wash dishes with her draped across my shoulders.
Then when she pegged we rescued a tortie from a house where the adult cat would just go for her. As a result of that start she wasn't up to much in the cat stakes - wouldn't do more than put her front paws on you occasionally, wouldn't defend her territory so every cat in the neighbourhood crapped in our garden; one tom even made small earth mounds to better aeriate his poop pong around and she couldn't bury her poop so when spring came there was a line of winter turds the length of the leylandii hedge to clear up.
The latest black cat is as I've described very people oriented (I hate it when cats or dogs are described as 'loving') and is anybody's for a head-scratch or a belly--rub (as indeed is her owner). The local rescue we got her from usually charges £75 per cat but said we could have her for £50 as people won't take black cats. My best two were both black. I understand that in southern Europe they're seen as bad luck omens and motorists will actively try to run them over?
On the subject of cat names, the first pair of the new tribe were called Ella (black up top and white underside) and Tigger (tabby up top and white underside) - I could live with the former but Tigger had to go so he's now Louis. When the 3rd joined she became Billie. Spot the pattern? Louis's the near-feral roamer; maybe he hates the new name?
Brass Neck wrote: "I don't understand the prejudice against black cats. My first was an all-black....."I don't understand it either & didn't realise rescue centres found it harder to re-home all black cats. How sad :-( Poor little things.
I've had a white longhair (Persian), a ginger tom, an all black shorthair, a tabby longhair (imaginatively called "Fluffy"), a tabby shorthair, another all black shorthair, two mixed/patchy black & white shorthairs and another black & white shorthair - but she was mainly black with white paws, tummy and chin (see profile photos).
Btw, we (ok, I) demand cat pictures. Get uploading your cat pictures, people! 😁
Edit. I cannot understand why people call a new pet the exact same name as their previous one. I know someone who always has a black Labrador bitch and it's always called Bess; and someone else who will always call her cat Bobby (regardless of sex). Weird.
BlackCats Lives Matter!bob z's a real outsider, the cat with no name (except '2nd Prize Eek-A-Mouse Killer Bob Zombie' to give him his sunday name), chews a stogie! lumpy lugged, scabby, mono-fanged, big leggy lil bastid! we're very fond of him.

Uploaded the best I have at the mo. I like being with 'em more than snappin' 'em.
Today I shall be waiting for Amazon to deliver a bottle of booze to finish D's Xmas pressie (hopefully this side of teatime), and looking forward to a bottle of red tonight and either a horror film or a couple of eps of Murder She Wrote.

Sorry, should have been clearer... I meant 'Shameless' as a name for the cat!

I read somewhere that black cats are unpopular at the moment as they're much harder to photograph successfully for all the 'cute cats' sections on the internet. Not that I think people are shallow and 'like' obsessed or anything...
I've just uploaded 'Coco', the late lamented, aka 'Mr Darcy' and 'Satan'. In spite of the nicknames, he was the softest cat, who gave the lie to those who claim cats are aloof and unfriendly.
Tim wrote: "2 pix of Moll on my profile. I might have an old style print of Polly if I can locate it."Nice Cat, fine garden too.
Isabella wrote: "I've just uploaded 'Coco', the late lamented, aka 'Mr Darcy' and 'Satan'. In spite of the nicknames, he was the softest cat, who gave the lie to those who claim cats are aloof and unfriendly."Very similar to our older Cat, Mimi. :)
Alas..as much as i like them..i've never had a cat, so got no piccys to offer up.I have however, after a 6 month self imposed isolation period, ventured out and about once again, to enjoy the many sights of what is currently a very windy Pembrokeshire this week. The family and i have been traipsing around looking at a couple of the local islands and yet another castle in the wee county.
On the Tuesday, the family took a boat trip around the monastic island of Caldey, the first time we've done that. Normally, one would be allowed to visit the island itself, but it's currently closed presently due to the pandemic. There's only 8 monks left living at the Abbey on the island..and they're all very old now...so they're playing it safe.
On Wednesday, we then went to St Catherine's Island at Tenby & it's Napoleonic fort atop it. It's the first time we've ever gone there in the near 17 years that we've lived here. For many years the fort was closed to visitors given it's poor condition, but is very very slowly being restored bit by bit. One can only go inside the chapel presently, which makes up one half of one level out of the including the roof......but it's something. I'll go back there again, when they've done a bit more work to it!
Then on Friday, we attempted to visit Manorbier Castle...but due to the high winds that was closed. So we went for a walk at Wiseman's bridge along one of the many former miner's railway routes...before settling down for a pint at the only building there...the rather aptly named Wiseman's Bridge Inn!
And today, after dining at a one of our favourite local pubs for lunch with two other family members...we once again returned to Manorbier Castle, of which this time it was open. We only had 40 minutes left there before they closed, but managed to get around most of it. Some fantastic views of the surrounding land and coast to be seen there, so i took loads of photos whilst there. Pembrokeshire has no shortage of medieval Norman castles within it's boundaries, I've seen about half of them so far..still plenty more to check out yet. Picton castle is next..one day.
And on tomorrow's itinerary...........nothing. I'm knackered and i want a lie in! My body isn't used to the exercise......it's been a bloody long 6 months stuck inside! :)

Were you trying to kill it?

All those kittie pictures are lovely, folks. 😻
And back to Murder She Wrote I go.

I'm not a moggie murderer, Mr B. Cat's diabetic though so the vet said no more feeding from the neighbours. Ebony loved tuna but in her later days it was too dry. I used to order her special kitty tuna online with the likes of chicken, pomegranate, pineapple etc mixed through. D's face at the price those orders cost ha ha. Only the best for my wee spoilt princess. 😊
...to be annoyed as hell. Got metal splinter and bit of rust (thanks to work with grinder) removed from left eye in Sligo hospital emergency dep. on Friday. They scratched it with a needle, as aresult I see now better with my injured eye (I am shortsighted) than the other one! That means with glasses on or without everything is blurry. Tomorrow back to GP. Eugh..

That sounds nasty. Hope it doesn't take long to heal.

"(thanks to work with grinder)" - were you swiping left or right at the time?
More seriously, were you wearing goggles?
Wishing I hadn't opened that 2nd bottle of wine last night. Apart from that, my telly's went bonkers again and 3/4 of the freeview channels have vanished. D was actually sat watching a Murder She Wrote there, ha ha.
"More seriously, were you wearing goggles?"Only my regular glasses, never done any other way. So no one to blame! Shit just happens.

Thanks Isabella, hope too.
Sounds v painful, PS. Ouches. Thanks to everyone for uploading all the lovely cat pics. I've added a few more too but you're all probably fed up of looking at cat photos by now.

Never!
Brass, Helen and others uploading pets & hedgehogs pics, never enough of them!'0)
Well it's not painful, but very annoying, as each eye now is like... one like, -2.5 and other one -1.0, roughly, when my glasses are same. Typing this squinting one eye.
******* jaysus...

Still, all booze bets are off next weekend when I have two local gigs on consecutive nights; a Thin Lizzy tribute band on Saturday which is indoors and that makes me slightly anxious but the James Oliver Band (no relation but just as pukkah) outside at the Hope Tavern on Sunday afternoon about which I have no reservations.

I fell asleep on the couch, woke up at 3 and stumbled into the bedroom, waking D up. Had to go back to bed again late morning. Shan't be doing that one again. 😳 Better take a mask with you for the Thin Lizzy gig.
Might be jumping the gun but I might, just might, have found a dog. Never hear back from applications to rescues (maybe it's the lack of previous experience as a dog owner?) but have had a very positive exchange of messages about this one;https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifi...
Collette wrote: "my telly's went bonkers again and 3/4 of the freeview channels have vanished..."Has your transmitter changed its broadcast settings? I know they were doing that in Cheshire and north Staffordsgire (I had to check it didn't extend into Shropshire). I had to retune my television anyway, because the signal isn't strong and that usually helps to get channels back, but my hard disc recorder still seems to be picking everything up.
D did a retune tonight and everything's back again. Same thing happened last Saturday. I was watching stuff on the Firestick, went onto freeview afterwards and there were only 20 odd stations there. Think our TVs has a mind of it's own.
Yay, our library is open again. Now the staff are imprisoned in a perspex box, but apart from that you can actually get in and browse.
Serial wrote: "Yay, our library is open again. Now the staff are imprisoned in a perspex box, but apart from that you can actually get in and browse."Sort of 'literature' you read has wipe-down pages anyway?
Collette, there is nothing wrong with a wee side effects from the booze - headache, breath like from tractor Minsk exhaust, lying in a puddle of piss - that's all worth having a good time.Gotta be careful though when start meeting squirrels and talking to them...
suzysunshine7 wrote: "... and even more careful when they start talking back to you? ... ! ;oO"<An owl and a squirrel are sitting in a tree, watching a farmer go by.
The owl turns to the squirrel and says nothing, because owls can't talk.
The owl then eats the squirrel because it's a bird of prey.

came up on vine listings, and tbh, ( interlude - neighbours and us scrambled to back door by sounds of cat fight - as usual, 2nd prize to an almost identical blac cat - lux chased it away - we actually pulled a bit of claw out of his neck, settled and uninjured now) looks kinda cheap and nasty, however, i'll go and rake out some tapes and see how it goes.
