Brass Neck | 3979 comments So the new old Neil Young Homegrown cds arrived so I thought I'd take the opportunity in the sunshine to take a sandal-shod hike to Blind Col's and back (about 8 miles round) to drop his off. The last time I went it was drizzling and I wore the same sandals (no socks, honest - I'm aiming not to have to put any on until maybe the end of September; you have to have some goals in life?) and they chafed away at the little toe of one foot and the middle toe of the other causing blood to be drawn in both instances and some degree of pain. It being dry I thought it'd be OK but about halfway there the old wounds were being chafed. I had my face covering with me so I thought I'd continue into town and catch a bus home to save my feet to an extent.

At 3pm on a Monday I wasn't expecting crowds but the central mall really was deserted but people were on hand to jump on you if you didn't follow the one way arrows. HMV had nowt interesting nor temptingly priced so I headed for Clarks. I was the only customer but was pounced on and sent back to the door to apply hand-sanitiser. I saw a pair of sandals (bit of a theme in footwear there) in my size marked down from £75 (aye, right) to £15 so I went to the desk to ask how we'd go about this since I had sandals with no socks on at which he offered some disposable socks virtually throwing the box to the seat where I was to try the single one on. I then realised just how many scabs and wounds there are on my feet from long walks in sandals so I put the 'sock' (more like cut-off feet from tights and it fitted OK so I said I'd like the other necessitating holding my leg in the air so he could read the model and size off the sticker on the sole! I bought them (rude not to at that price for leather uppers and inners; crucial since another pair of sandals (there's that theme again) I have are initially incredibly comfortable but the synthetic sole seems to cause blister on my soles after short distance).

Then it was onto my first bus ride in more than half a year so it was headphones off, mask on for the first time since I got it a few weeks ago, replace headphones and feeling a little nervous at the proximity of other passengers who were at least all wearing some form of face-covering as required. A couple of teenage girls in front of me kept pulling their masks away from their faces every time they spoke to each other which seemed somewhat to defeat the point,

None of these were experiences I wish to undergo again in any hurry.

Three trailers full, so I was pleased, though I'm not pleased the Dog has been over eating some of it.

The most excited I saw my - now five-years-deceased - dog was when we happened upon a very dead and significantly decomposed cow while walking somewhere I would not have expected to find a cow. By the time I had worked out where the terrible smell was comng from he was vigorously rubbing himself against the more obviously putrefied bits.

Just in on the email from Coles - one of the two biggies in supermarket chains here :

"From today, there is a limit of one pack per customer on toilet paper and paper towel, and a two pack limit per customer on the following items:

Hand sanitiser
Flour
Eggs
Sugar
Mince
UHT milk
Rice
Pasta"

Awww, Val ... x ... I'm not altogether sure how we'll be able to distinguish a Second Wave coming here whilst we are all still apparently up to our Necks and barely staying afloat yet with the First Wave?

I still can't get my Head around the fact that somewhere between 100 to 200 people are still being recorded as dying every 24 hours here? ;o<

And - maybe it's just me who is thinking and feeling this? - but the number of Deaths gets quoted every day in what seems to be getting smaller and smaller Headlines ... almost as though it isn't quite such a big deal to us all now to be hearing about all of these Deaths as it once was?

But they aren't just some more numbers are they? ... they are our Grandparents, Mums & Dads, Children, Friends & Neighbours ... they are precious parts of our Families and valued members of our Communities ... and we are still losing them to this bloody awful Virus AND still waiting on an effective Vaccine that possibly may never be coming any time soon or even found at all ;o<

"So if anyone is slightly confused about the new Coronavirus Support Bubbles then this is what you need to know ...

You can now go and see up to 6 friends on a Thursday between 2am and 4am - but only if it's a Full Moon and you are wearing at least three items of Clothing that you bought after October of 2019.

If you have anything that is made of Wool or Linen in your Wardrobe or own a Kenwood Food Processor then you MUST continue to self-isolate for everyone's sake and stay the f**k at Home!

There are some exceptions to the Rules.

If you know of anyone called Nigel, Gladys, or Pete? - then you may go round to a Neighbours' House once a fortnight for a plate of Chicken Fajitas (but not Tacos) ... and only if that Neighbour has ever been to a Metallica Concert, can talk in more than 2 Languages including Klingon, always wears colour co-ordinated Socks with their Sandals, and can prove that they genuinely are a Vegan who doesn't also sneakily like to indulge in a Bacon & Brown Sauce Butty of a Sunday morning ... I hope this helps ... 😊 x x x"

Nah! - I grew up being regularly force-fed a kind-of homemade natural 'Yoghurt' because my Dad absolutely insisted that it was exactly the same as the expensive stuff that you could buy in the Supermarket ;o<
