Gotcha! I don't watch the Simpsons so that went right over my head. "rough chicks"? That hair swinging could take the eye right out of your head. 😉

Especially if they wore it in culturally inappropriate Bo Derek style corn-rows!

Collette | 6187 comments Black eye guaranteed there, Tim. 😊

Today I shall be mostly relaxing now. Was out doing the garden with D earlier, and realise that I'm much better sticking with the lawnmower. My attempt at strimming lasted about one minute when I nearly cut through the wire. Don't think D'll be giving me another shot at that one ha ha. ☺️

Sweaty day pouring concrete.

Ordered a Poultry Incubator, should be fun, we have about 25 Ducks and a Drake so have the eggs already. Kids will love it.

Then I'll be trying to make powerpoint embroidery charts. Tried yesterday. Why do they change things so much? I haven't used PP for a few years and the new version is different enough to have me tearing my hair...

accumulated scores from yesterday and today,

2nd prize eek a mouse killer bob zombie - 2
small brown birds - 0

(the 1st encounter went to sudden death, as i had to mercifully brick the poor wee bastard into the next life!)

aggregate career scores,

2nd prize eek a mouse killer bob zombie - 9
small brown birds and mice - 0 (survivors - 2)

really too much fun separating the combatants (however one-sided) in the hall!

Brass Neck | 3979 comments The other day the more prolific wildlife despatcher of our moggies, Louis, trotted up with a very live, blinking grey squirrel in his mouth. He's a bugger to get him to let go and he was in the garden so he just jumped the wall. Disconcerting to say the least.

A couple of days ago I heard some tweeting and fluttering in the hall way and investigated to find our doziest, laziest moggie, Billie (there're 3 of them named after jazz singers, the 3rd being Ella. Her name was the one given when we rescued her but Louis was called Tigger so that had to go), with a small, very live bird in her mouth which she clearly didn't know what to do with. I corralled her into the utility where she dropped it in the cat tree and departed. I was able to scoop it up, opened the door and, as soon as I opened my hands, off it flew.

These events are mercifully rare - I think it was a first for Billie. None of them wear a collar so no bells. Louis was so traumatised by his first collar he just flattened himself to the floor, motionless so the bell wouldn't ring.

Our previous moggie, Pepsi (primary age son's choice), was a prolific killer. We'd regularly come down in a morning to find a mouse's head, its 4 paws and tail, and the same single internal organ amid some blood smears. She was forensic in her dismembering. She also had never learnt to bury her poop - first job every Spring was to scoop up the long trail of decomposing turds the length of the leylandii hedge,

Are you sure Bob's a Zombie? Maybe he's a Vampurr? - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nECyeeQ...

Anyway, it's Groundhog Day here, same old same old, faffing about the house doing bits & bobs, faffing about on here/internet, listening to music, catching spiders, catching moths, going for a walk through the village a bit later - even some of our lovely old street lamps have been contaminated (give me a min & I'll upload a photo, you'll see what I mean).

Then a bit of relaxing chainsawing .

Phew.

Also still happy from listening to the leak of new Bob Dylan album last night. Glad I did listen now, as apparently it's been removed.

Chips and homemade pasties for an early dinner now. Thinking will I drive to town for Beer or not :0

Only about 6 local authority areas in the UK have seen a FALL in excess deaths during the pandemic and North East Lincs is one of them. Mind you when all them comforts (ah've comfort weekend) return and bring their South Yorkshire infection rates …..

https://www.theguardian.com/world/202...

It's free to view but you may have to register - got to be worth it, the Guardian is the UK's most trusted source of truthful reporting, not that there's much competition.

message 1289: by Tim (new)

Tim Franklin | 10949 comments the Guardian is the UK's most trusted source of truthful reporting

By whom, its readers? If that were true, the paper would surely sell more copies than it does, even in an overall declining market. Instead it continues to languish near the foot of the table. Only the Sun and the Mail seem to have retained most of their readership in recent years.

Given the number of people who say they support Labour, it does suggest only a few of them buy the Guardian (it should be noted that the BBC buys around 10% of the paper's daily circulation!). Perhaps most Labour voters dislike being lectured to by entitled middle class journalists, most of whom went to private schools. 🤪😂

Thought that'd rattle yer cage. There's a massive difference between readership and trust, the Daily fail's readership are no doubt true (blue) believers of every lie and exaggeration it prints but the wider population sees it for the slavering Tory lapdog it is.

__________________________________________________

For example, 38% of those who place themselves on the right side of the ideological spectrum trust the Daily Mail, compared with only 20% of those who place themselves on the left.

You were saying? The Mail is a tabloid, and most people - on both left and right - take that into account when gauging the paper's trustworthiness. Didn't you say you'd seen someone buy copies of both the Mail and the Guardian recently? I've often seen people buying both the Sun and the Mirror.

Divides in trust between those on the left and right is largest when it comes to The Guardian: 69% of those on the left trust the source, compared with 46% of people on the right.

(both above quotes from the bond link)

The articles are quite specific in singling out young people (18 to 29) as being those who trust the Guardian the most. Given that this same age group is at the forefront of the new McCarthyism (cancellation culture) I'm unsure whether this is a flag you should be proud to fly.

“When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”

This quote, by George RR Martin, and put into the mouth of his character Tyrion Lannister, is often deployed against the advocates of cancellation culture and de-platforming. It's incredibly depressing that our universities, which should be places of learning and broadening the mind, have instead submitted to this tunnel vision view of the world, and those lecturers brave enough to resist are denounced.

In my opinion, it's worse than depressing, it's dangerous. Those studying now are our future educators, politicians, journalists etc. If they don't know how to distinguish among arguments, to think that others might have a point worthy of consideration, where will we be in twenty years time? (In my case, it probably won't matter but that doesn't mean I don't care...).

Rig is not in our good books today. Su left him outside unsupervised for about two minutes this morning and he managed to dig a hole in one of the flower beds, showering some of the washing on the rotary dryer behind with soil. He also managed to dig up a plant that was just starting to recover from the last time he dug it up.

This afternoon he scavenged something on his afternoon walk, which is nothing unusual because he's an absolute swine for eating anything he thinks might be remotely edible and worrying about the after effects later, usually none.

Back at home about two hours late , he's laid in his bed asleep he suddenly woke up and projectile vomited in his bed. Su got him upright to get him outside, more vomit on the wooden floor, got him outside where he was sick three more times.

Two hours later he's laid in one of his spare beds while the other one's in the wash glaring at us because we haven't given him his dinner. I suspect I'm going to be woken up at about six o'clock tomorrow morning for a very early morning walk and breakfast for Rig.
