Lez | 7490 comments I’ve got to physically attend a cardiology clinic tomorrow at a hospital. And I’ve got to go by ambulance. I’m really worried. 😕

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Ohhh Lez ... x ... I'm not at all surprised that you are feeling like this as I know that I would be too if the Appointment was for me or my M&D. I think that the important things to try to focus on is that there is so much more alertness, awareness and medical knowledge about this Virus now - and there is such exceptionally high standards of cleaning that is currently going on virtually all of the time and in all areas of every Hospital right now too.

You will be whisked in and whisked out as speedily as possible and all of the Staff will be very aware of keeping you away from everyone else and keeping their own distance as much as possible for their own protection as well as for yours and making sure that all actual contact with your person is down to the barest minimum as well. And if you don't have a Mask of your own to wear then you will surely be provided with one right from the very start.

There are now separate closed off areas of every Hospital with separate Entrances and Exits for any Patients who are being brought in as suspected, as well as already diagnosed, Covid cases - and every Hospital has got a separate fleet of Ambulances that are being exclusively used for such Patient transports as well.

I'm thinking that you'd probably be at much more of a high risk of catching Covid just by wandering around in a Supermarket right now than you would in being in most parts of a Hospital? When you get back Home again, if you can possibly manage to, then I'd suggest having a very thorough wash (or a Shower if you can), and putting all of your Clothes straight into the Washing Machine if you feel like you want to make absolutely sure that they are completely clean.

if it's anything like our local hosp, non-covid areas are well organised, not busy, and ultra-clean.

Collette | 6187 comments This morning D and I have the joys of Asda, getting Mum's shopping and our own. There's usually a bit of a queue, but it's fine once you're inside. Hopefully, D won't have a fight with the self service till this week... "IT'S A TIN OF F*****G FRUIT!!!"

Then I shall come home and have a lazy day. Got last night's episode of First Wave to watch, plus Tuesday night's River City. Such excitement...

Ohhh Collette!!! - that made me laugh SO much I nearly dropped my Mug of Tea! It would make my day just to get to see and hear D doing that! I'm SO glad to know it isn't just me who talks back to Machines and Automated Services ;o>

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Both of my parents have had to go to hospital for outpatient stuff in the last week or so, like everyone before me has said there was nothing to worry about - they don't shunt spittle-covered Drs and nurses off the Covid wards to other areas mid-shift.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... experimenting with freezing two packs of whole stalks of fresh Rhubarb ... because I found a very kind and welcome gift of four packs of Rhubarb in our Porch first thing this morning - and it will freeze very well like this according to Google ;o>

It freezes really well, Suzy, we freeze it regularly.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I'm planning on trying out tinned Pineapple next as I've had to buy in some Catering sized Tins of my favourite Brand from off Amazon this week and I'll never manage to eat a whole Tin all by myself within the week of opening one. I've seen fresh Pineapple chunks in Frozen Smoothie Packs so I know it can be done ;o>

Serial Sock Trumpet (serialsocktrumpet) | 1998 comments Yep, exciting lives.

Planting out Parsnips today I raised in recycled toilet roll holders.

Watering the veg garden, still really dry, barely any rain recently.

Delivering Eggs to village shop. as usual leaving with some shopping no money, I always spend what I'm owed in the shop. More of an exchange really.

Yes thanks, though the ambulanceman wasn’t masked! All hospital staff were suitably dressed and keeping their distances. It was eerily quiet, like a film set.

I love the self service tills personally..but i must confess to occasionally ''aving a go at it' from time to time.....usually when it tells me to put the item in the bagging area..when i've already done so!

Oh and that one everybody fuggin' 'ates as well......

.."Unidentified item in the bagging area"

Is it just me...or does that one singular phrase, sends a chill of mortal fear up one's spine, when the stupid machine says that?!

If we're feeling adventurous late afternoon, we might take a walk round to Aldi for some fruit cider for D, being he forgot to get it in Asda. Oh, the excitement. I can hardly contain myself! 🙄🙄🙄

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments I have a choice of the following recent DVD/Blu-Ray arrivals for this evening:

A Streetcar Named Desire
One-Eyed Jacks
The Maltese Falcon
Midnight Cowboy

I've been catching up with noir classics I'd never previously got around to watching: Night of the Hunter, Casablanca and Rear Window over the past couple of weeks, with Double Indemnity also on order. Might have to be The Maltese Falcon.

Collette | 6187 comments Wrong film, that's the Mark Whalberg/Reese Witherspoon one where she falls for a total bad 'un. Got that one too, and it's really good. Tonight's 'Fear' is from 1990, I think. Allie Sheedy plays a psychic who gets into the mind of a serial killer...and vice versa. Had it on VHS years ago.

I remember seeing "One-Eyed Jacks" when it was released so I must have been just into my teens. I thought it was over-long and boring. It was possibly just my age. I wonder what I'd think of it now. There have been a few films that I'd put in a similar box - "Reflections in a Golden Eye" and "Vanilla Sky" are two that spring to mind. I just didn't get them.

message 938: by Gordon (new)

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Ooh. Thanks Val. Reflections in a Golden Eye is another one to order. I only read the book last year, and it's a bit difficult to imagine how anyone could get a full-length movie from it.

I adore Carson McCullers. The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is one of my all-time favourite novels. I wonder whether it's worth giving the film adaptation of that one a go. I can't find many reviews of it.

I can't remember which I did first - saw the film or read the book. I suspect I saw the film first and fell in love with it (mind you I was a very sentimental teen). I loved the book too and I suspect I would still like the film. You can't go wrong with Alan Arkin.

Did you ever see John Huston's adaptation of James Joyce's The Dead, Lez? I'd be interested to know what you thought, as it seems to be a film that divides people very clearly. I absolutely love it; my brother thinks it's one of the worst films he's ever seen.

message 942: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments No, I didn’t,Gordon. It was after our film going years (1972) and we didn’t see it on telly. I must have read the story (I liked Joyce) but I don’t remember it.
