Craig White | 6727 comments ......reflecting on the glory of a back garden completely mowed (you could play snooker on it - if you were shight at snooker in the first place!) and strimmed yesterday - obvs left bob z's tuft of grass around the bird feeders so he can do the skilled ninja hunter thing, not that he's even remotely came close to catching the fat pigeon (which must be a tourist, it's got all it's toes!). and that of being a good neighbour - following my shining example in backyard grooming, my neighbour's hover mower stopped hovering, so lent him mine, which he cleaned (i don't) and washed down with disinfectant before returning! of course it struck me that i should have done this beforehand, but, well, it was manky!

Getting out there on my bike while waiting for the mince to defrost so I can make meatloaf.

(Should've taken it out of the freezer last night.)

Lez | 7490 comments Waiting for Tesco. My priority ‘slot’ is 10.00am to 6.00pm! They’re supposed to notify me of an hour within those times but nowt so far.

Thought their flexi-slot was only a four hour window?
Hope they don't keep you waiting all day Lez.

message 708: by Gordon (new)

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Shopping done for next 5-6 days. Now need to make my mind up about whether to get wireless broadband installed (£99 installation plus £75 for a special router), since there seems no prospect of OpenReach getting fibre to us for the next few years and it's a real struggle to work from home with super-slow broadband.

Trouble is, if I get faster broadband it will become even more apparent how slow my desktop computer is, so I'll probably have to shift everything onto the laptop (which I was deliberately trying to avoid using for work because of all the extra security stuff that has to be installed, which will slow that device right down as well).

Catching calves and injecting them for blackleg. Strong little bstrds they are. Then into the trailer out into the fields for the first time. No better sight than them running in the sunshine.

Gonna do the jamie oliver macoroni cheese recipe later, and puree up the cauliflower element so kids will eat it..... :0

Anyone else think 'Moneybox' is possibly the most boring program on radio 4, though it's a close call with 'You & Yours'

Never heard Woman's Hour? Or The Archers? Or The Food Programme? (Actually, that one might be interesting to a farmer.) Or Gardeners' sodding Question Time? The list is almost endless. And don't get me started on Just a *%$!ing Minute or the abominable Dead Ringers.

You're right, Gordon, just some days I seem to always catch either You and Yours or some other similar thing.

The Archers is still blissfully Corvid free, can't help thinking they should keep it that way

I'm sure there are still plent of crows & magpies around. It is blissfully Covid-free, though. It must be recorded a long time in advance. They'll be doing the single-wicket before long, which would be great in a social-distancing version.

With working at home I have reclaimed 2½ hours a day that are normally spent commuting. I'm generally putting somethng on to cook around 6:30 then knocking off at 7 pm and watching Richard Osman's House of Games on catch-up while I eat. I was wondering how long it would carry on with five of them sitting close together in a studio until I realized they're repeats from at least two years ago.

Our small Highland village is being switched over to fibre broadband on 1st May (well, that's what they said pre-virus/lockdown but I've not heard from them since). I'll have a new SmartHub to install so if I disappear you'll know it's not worked!

Freeview/digital signal still playing up intermittently. Still can't work out why. Weather v good. Can't hear any chainsaws being used. Connections all ok. Aerial ok. I have a 4G filter thingy installed.

Lez | 7490 comments I’m proud and happy to say I’ve never listened to The Archers in my life.
I only ever listen to the quizzes on R4. Sad to say even ISIHAC should have been put to bed a couple of series ago. I expect it might be now.
I listen to R3 from 9.00am to midday and Composer of the Week if it’s someone unusual or that I like. Late Junction and other late night stuff too. Occasionally 6Music and the odd play.

You said cutting your own hair was easy! I let Mrs Neck loose on mine this afternoon, she was cautious and it hasn't turned out ridiculous (the bits I can see).

I'm happy to believe that Lez, since I haven't listened willingly to anything on Radio 4 since about 1975, Im definitely more 'out' than 'in':-)

Did I just split an infinitive? I've never understood what that means.

message 742: by Derek (new)

Derek W | 1365 comments … actually, after a quick bit of research, replace '1975' with 'never'. I thought Im Sorry I'll Read That Again, which in any case finished in 1973, was on Radio 4 but I was wrong, it was on Radio 2.

There are repeats of ISIRTA on Radio 4 Extra, Derek. I’ve tried it occasionally but it’s not as funny as I remember, but then, things rarely are.

Helen The Melon | 3419 comments Hoping my Mammillaria cactus survives. I had to place it in quarantine in the isolation ward last night (in a room that has no other plants in it). It appears to have a mealybug infestation. Yuk. Not sure what to do, I don't know much about cacti. My sister gave it to me and it had one or two bugs on it a while ago but I thought I'd gotten rid of them. They're back! Hoping they haven't spread to my fabulous hairy Old Man cactus, Kevin. They were sat next to each other on the kitchen windowsill. I'll be devastated if they have. I've had Kevin for over 25 yrs, he even survived University & "the party years". He's a fine specimen!

message 750: by nocheese (new)

nocheese | 6824 comments I recently did some research (i.e googled) mealybugs as a plant in the office had them. Advice from RHS was that although they can be eliminated it’s expensive and treatment may not work anyway. They advised getting rid of the infected plant for the sake of the others.
