............and that's why i'm back - life's too short!

1 - money
2 - ensuring paperwork looks good
3 - the care commission (or whatever they're called this week)
4 - reputation
5 - clipboards

27 - the people they care for

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Glad to have you back, tech.

Obviously, we've been banned from visiting my dad in his care home for several weeks. It sounds like all the staff are still healthy and the home is pretty well run, so I presume anyone who mght be ill would be able to stay at home. I'm sure there are plenty of places where they'd be under pressure to go in, and then if they take the virus to work they'll wipe out all of the residents, which seems to have happened in a few places already.

Are you going to seek any sort of medical help - just in case it turns out to be something biding its time and is waiting to bite you later on?

It's hard enough to buy thermometers at the moment. I'm not sure most people would find it easy to get hold of a pulse oximeter.

No doubt there are plenty of people on eBay willing to sell you one, but the probability that they actually have one is pretty low. I ordered a thrmometer for my mum a few weeks ago from someone on eBay who turned out not to have any thermomenters (or anything else, for that matter). Fortunately. eBay gave me my money back and I had managed to find a thermometer at Superdrug.

Today I shall fart around less. Gonna finish cleaning the kitchen, start the living room, and drag my lazy butt onto the exercise bike, which D fitted with new pedals, so it seems to have stopped doing that annoying bang bang bang sound it's made from the day we got it.

Only a few weeks ago, it was understood by everyone that anyone wearing Masks in public were very likely about to commit crimes or intent on causing trouble - and folk were banned from wearing Hoodies in certain areas, like Shopping Centres, because they couldn't easily be identified by any witnesses or on CCTV if they were up to no good.

Now we all are, or will be, walking around for the foreseeable future looking like we are about to mug old ladies or rob the nearest Bank - and the Police will very likely be out and about issuing warnings and Fines if we don't do so?!

Who da thunk it?!! ;oO

There's a coincidence ... our Window Cleaner, Michael, texted us first thing this morning and then turned up an hour later. It was just SO wonderful to have even the very briefest of almost face-to-face conversations with another Human Being - and especially with one who doesn't have any kind of Dementia issues going on.

I've managed to put a Plug back onto my Coffee Filter Machine (thank you Google) although not the Plug that was on it before as, despite an intensive search, I still can't find that anywhere - so I put on a Pot of Coffee and offered some to Michael. He must have enjoyed it as much as he said he did because he came back for another Mug on his way back around the Road and filled his Travel Mug up for him before he left.

I'm not sure how long this official Lock-down is going to last around here because a lot of local Restaurants and Cafes suddenly seem, as of this week, to be re-opening again according to their Facebook Pages - and a lot of them are suggesting resuming Collection Services as well as offering up Home Delivery. And Michael tells me that he's been seeing more and more folk venturing out over this last week to go to places like Garden Nurseries and B&Q.

I've decided to park my backside on my chair and take it easy, having had such a busy, hectic week at work - went in Monday, had Tuesday and Wednesday as scheduled rest days, went in yesterday and when I got back there was a notice up saying holiday available.
A quick word with a manager means I'm off work now til Tuesday :)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Is this why a lot of the Supermarkets still seem to have limited Stock on the Shelves, Grizzly? - because there are less Deliveries to the Stores?

message 687: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 24, 2020 07:33AM) (new)

Don't really know what's going on, Suzy. When I got into work yesterday the staff car park was barely a quarter full. Other drivers were saying that the volumes have just completely dropped off all of a sudden. Perhaps the products are just not available for us to be delivering?
We are a fresh/frozen depot and I know that we haven't been as busy as the grocery/ambient depots as I was talking to a driver from Lichfield RDC who said they have been working minimum 12 hour shifts.

At least I can give my hands a bit of a break - as it is still cool overnight/ early morning, my hands go completely numb while delivering and all the colour drains out of my fingers, despite wearing gloves. It actually looks quite shocking and they hurt like hell when I start getting feeling back in them. I've taken pictures to show the doctor, when I next get to actually see one. I'll put one up on my profile so you can see what I mean.
Hopefully it'll warm up some more when I go back so I don't suffer as much.

I'd suggest having a little read around Google as to the best kinds of Gloves to wear if you do suffer from Raynauds. Whether you actually have it or not, and while you are waiting on seeking out your Doctor's opinion on it, it definitely sounds like you need to be investing in some far more suitable Gloves than the ones that you are wearing at the moment.

I have something very similar from time to time including having sudden horrendous episodes of Pins and Needles - but it has been diagnosed in me as being related to having Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia as well.

Helen The Melon | 3419 comments Grizzlygrump wrote: "I don't normally get the purple and blue until my fingers are starting to thaw - thought I'd got frostbite!"

Mine go purple/blue to white & then back to purple/blue & then back to "normal" colour. Can be v v painful. Same thing happens to my feet. It happens all year round, in fact my left hand is starting to go purple now & it's been 19°C today.

I wear silk inner glove liners underneath pure wool or cashmere gloves/mittens (unless it's peeing it down/blizzard & then it's waterproof padded ski gloves on top). Natural fibres are best. I also wear silk socks inside thick wool socks but have to make sure that shoes/boots are roomy enough obvs. Does it affect your feet too?

Maybe try these inside your gloves - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jasmine-Glov...

I wear long cashmere wrist/hand warmers in the house. Eg. Johnstons of Elgin. Expensive but worth it.

message 698: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for the recommendation, Helen - I've ordered a pair in XL and will see if that helps :)

No, I don't suffer with my feet and, generally, am not bothered by the cold with the exception of my hands. As it is, I've been in shorts and short sleeved shirts for a few weeks now and am even using the aircon in the truck due to feeling too hot.
I think the problem is worsened due to the amount of cold metal my hands come into contact with while doing deliveries - two ratchet straps per row of cages (up to 17 rows) and metal cages in temperature controlled zones in the trailer as cold as minus 21 degrees.
It's less of a problem when doing smaller deliveries to the Express stores as opposed to a whole trailer load in one go to the bigger stores.

message 700: by [deleted user] (new)

No one else I've talked to at work seems to suffer like I do, Lez, and they are usually horrified when they see the state of my hands. They also think I'm mad for wearing shorts most of the year :)

I suppose I could find out what gloves the warehouse staff use when in the freezer section but I can't wear something which inhibits the dexterity required to undo the ratchet straps.
