A story about robots? Hmm…one might think a cold, flat, no feeling story, but one couldn't be more wrong. Mr. Deeney's robots show more emotions than your average everyday protagonists.
What I liked the most about the book is that you grow with the robots. For instance, you are in Robbie's head. You think with him. You analyze things with him. How can you not care what happens to him?
The beginning was a little confusing for me as the first chapter reads more like a prologue. We see the first things Robbie sees, the first things he feels and then we go back to how and why Lucy decided to get a robot. After that, the story flows well. Mr. Deeney takes us in a wonderful journey. We learn how Gen5 robots like Robbie were created all the while we follow Robbie's progress and soon, past and present merge.
Can robots love or are they just machines programmed to help humans? I'll let you decide but one thing for sure, Mr. Deeney's robots won't leave you cold.
There is a Goodreads giveaway at the moment for this book. The author offers 10 signed copies for US, CA, and UK. It ends Jan 3rd. (Even if you don't win, the 99cents to buy the kindle is well worth it.)
