SOLVED. '90s Romantic Suspense Cop/Protector... and a Treehouse? [s]

Total, ridiculous long shot, but this is what I can remember - it's pitifully little...

Late 90s romantic suspense (maybe? possibly?). I know it's not recent (like, not the last decade), at least.

Cop/protector hero dude. Want to say he has a giant adorable dog of some kind (maybe a husky? black lab?). Anyway, he's protecting this chick (from a stalker? rapist? murderer? god, I'm useless...). And he/she (one of them) has this tree house cottage thing out of the city, so they go there to get away from the bad dude... for "protection" (bow chicka wow wow)...

Sounds a little like that Julia Roberts movie Sleeping with the Enemy, which was based on the book Sleeping With The Enemy.
