20% (view spoiler)[I really miss seeing things from Rhen and Harper's perspectives but I just love Grey. He is so noble. In the last book I was convinced that Grey had fallen for Harper but it never expressly said that in the book. Just alluded to it. I was glad to see him pretty much admit it to himself in this book. I am really liking Lia Mara's chapters so far. I like her character. She cares about her people but she isn't as severe or bloodthirsty as her mother and sister. I also really loved the sisterly bond that was evident from their time traveling together. They may be very different but they love each other nonetheless. I just adore Tycho and I can't wait to see more of him. I hope that he plays a big role in the story because I just love him. I am curious about the scraver and what it is exactly. (hide spoiler)]

I just wonder if he is afraid of magic after everything that Lilith put him through or if he is afraid of losing his throne to someone else. Maybe both? I was glad to see Harper help them after Grey made everyone faint. She seemed appalled by what Rhen had done to them. I am glad that she didn't know about it because I probably would have despised her character if she had. I am liking Lia Mara's character. I really loved the scene where Lia Mara and Grey met for the first time. (hide spoiler)]

67% (view spoiler)[The scraver followed Grey. His name is Iisak and I really like him. I am curious to know more about him and what he wants from Lia Mara's mother. Also, I'd like to know more about the scravers in general.

Grey finally learned how to use his magic, if just a little bit. I am glad that he was able to heal himself and Tycho.

The confrontation with Rhen's guards in the village was eventful. I didn't expect the villagers to turn on the royal guard the way that they did. I was glad that Grey was able to heal some of the villagers after the fight.

So Jake and Grey seem to have formed a friendship. More like a truce. I want them to be friends so badly. I totally ship their bromance.

Grey and Lia Mara finally have a romantic moment! They clearly feel something for each other. But Lia Mara feels a little out of place, I think. She is trying to prove to her mother that she can be an asset by bringing Grey to Syhl Shallow and she thinks that means her sister will somehow be matched with him. (hide spoiler)]

So the scraver is actually the King of his people. I wasn't expecting that. I wonder what happened to his son. I wonder if we will find out in the next book?

What Karis Luran did to Parrish was awful. And to punish Lia Mara. She had his eye taken even after Grey healed him.

I can't believe that Karis Luran was going to have Grey kill her own daughter! How evil is she, really? Good thing Grey is much better with his magic now. I am glad that Lia Mara is the one that killed Karis Luran. I think it was fitting.

So Lillith is back. Argh. I hate her so much. And now she is blackmailing Rhen. And Rhen loves Harper so much that he will do whatever she says to keep Harper safe. Though I don't know how that will work out for him since Lillith wants to rule at Rhen's side. I am really curious about what was going through Rhen's mind during the second book.

Overall, I liked it. I thought that what she did with Rhen was risky but I think that it paid off. (hide spoiler)]
