Backstory: When Ryan was 13 his powers manifested. His parents kicked him out for "being a freak" and he soon wound up in a homeless shelter. there, state authorities were notified of his age and he was put into foster care. he hid his powers but grew more and more frustrated as he bounced from house to house. when he was 16 he had his longest stay yet, and he truly loved his family. he had a little sister who looked up to him and he would tell her stories every night. then she got sick. really sick. blood cancer sick. his foster family was lower middle class and even with Ryan working extra-long shifts the medical bills started taking a toll on them. when a new treatment that looked promising was revealed to be too expensive, Ryan cracked. he bought a fake ID and started gambling. he was good at it too, and it got to his head. he started doing it for fun, even after they started the treatment. then one day his sister found out. they had a huge fight and the last thing he said to her was "you're just a dumb little kid!"
that turned out to be his last words to her.
it killed him inside, or at least it felt that way. he grew apart from his foster parents, who loved him but didn't know what to do. they were still grieving the loss of their daughter and by the time they were emotionally ready to deal with his actions, it was too late. he started pushing away the guilt and the pain, gambling more and more. he was getting worse and it was bothering him, so he started cheating using his powers. when he was 17 a powerful criminal discovered his powers and convinced him that he could do more than just cheat in backwater casinos. they gave him tiny metal beads and taught him to throw them, first at things and then at people. "you don't have to hurt 'em" they said, "just slow 'em down."
but slowing them down got harder to do harmlessly. he was frustrated and his thoughts were clouded and all he knew was that one way was easier than the other. he hasn't killed many people, no. it's in the single digits actually. but when he does, it doesn't hurt him. at least not where he can feel it.
he started having to fight a lot more "do-gooders" it got frustrating, how they poked at what was left of his conscience. so now he's jumping at a chance to be rid of that little voice in his head and get rid of MAPA

He had been killed by the aftermath of a super's electric shock. Since then, Cal's been working for his family with his mom, training himself for the day He'd be able to fight to rid the world of those with powers. It didn't help that He spiraled into depression after the death of his loving father. He is brave, loyal to those who deserve it, and does what she is told unless it goes against what he believes in.
