SOLVED. Pre-2015 Adult fiction about protag returning to altered Hometown. [s]

I don’t actually remember what year this book came out in but I think I heard about it in 2015. It’s about a normal human boy returning home to his supernaturally changed hometown. The people there have been split into three different species: Red, blue, and yellow. I don’t remember anything about the yellow people but I do know that the red people were all extremely fat and the blue people were all-female and were constantly pregnant. The protagonists friends was one of the blue women but she died shortly before the story began. His dad was also one of the red people. The plot was figuring out how the protagonists friend died. I’m also pretty sure the author was either Irish or Scottish.
