Retribution Falls [Apr 1, 2020]
Soo wrote: "I haven't read this yet. I will probably join. =)"Just FYI, I think only the first book is available in audiobook format.
Soo wrote: "All of the series is on Audible. I'm good to go. =D"I wonder why they don't show up on Amazon then. I'd of listened to the whole series a few times by now if I'd known that.
I don't expect GR/Amazon/Audible to make sense. lol The way things are listed, updated, linked are a bit hand wavy. Audible was the 3rd place I checked and I'm glad I did because it makes it easier for me.
Well, it works for me! I wasn't sure I'd have the time to actually re-read these books myself but with audiobooks available I can join this BR after all. :-)
Started today! I think I would enjoy this one more in print vs audio but sticking to audio because that's what I have.
Ch 10Well so far pretty fun and lively beginning. Interesting characters too. I think I’m gonna enjoy this one a lot.
The mystery (view spoiler)
Brian, I think you would like this one if you're reading the print. My thoughts are that the book is a roughish intro and the following books may be better paced & build on what's set in book 1.
Done. What a fun book. Start to finish, I truly enjoyed the misadventures. It’s not super smart, but it’s an entertaining book. Something we all need at this time I suppose.
4 Star.
I'm a bit more than half way thru, a swashbuckler ride. Has a bit if everything. Pirates of the Carribean feel.
For some reason, I cannot connect with the narrative. But it's still early, perhaps I just need more time to switch from the previous book.

My theory is that Quail (view spoiler)
Oh, I haven't noticed you're done already, Barry! But it does read fast, I hope to finish today, and you are right: it is a fun book. I like each and every misfit on Ketty Jay.

You're half right with the guess.
Yeah, it's a pretty fun book so I breezed through it. Please because of the global situation, I'm working from home and don't have to commute. So extra time to read.
Aww, I am envying you folks reading the series for the first time. Enjoy the ride, it's gonna get better or at least continued to be as fun as the first one :)
I've started but this is a reread for me so I'm doing it via audiobook this time. The narrator is doing an awesome job differentiating all the voices. I'm enjoying being back with this ragtag crew.
I'm oddly finding myself with less time to read too. And it doesn't bode well since I was hoping to do five BRs this month.
It was okay. I didn't find it great, but I suspect that's down to my mood (lockdown is starting to depress me).Did anyone else find the mention of electricity jarring in what they'd been told was a steampunk novel?
I think the story gets categorized as steampunk by bookstores but I don't know that any of the technology was steam powered. Not that I can recall, anyway. I think it's its own thing but the industry likes its labels so, there you go.
Sorry you didn't like it better, Shaitarn. I totally get how the lockdown can start to seriously affect people's moods. This is such a crazy time and it's being felt world-wide. I am enjoying this reread, myself. But even knowing the characters like I do, I still find myself wondering why Jez is sticking around these guys who just keep getting into hotter and hotter water. (view spoiler) lol
And first mention of Trinica!!
Ive started this! In the first chapter, without this “tooth” business, its kind of basic. It does give me Mistborn Era 2 vibes...anyone else get that??
Steampunk doesn't exclude electricity. It just usually means that there are other forms of gear/magic with mechanical components involved. That's my take on it from the various steampunk books I've read. Veronica, agreed! She's smart! But I'm guessing that her being an outlier/hardy makes her a bit different in perspective on what she will consider as dangerous. lol
Narilka wrote: "Through Ch 8. These guys are terrible pirates. [spoilers removed]"This is just spot on haha!
I didn't really pay much attention to this during my first read through, but now I really just can't understand why Jez stayed on with this crew. (view spoiler)I think I'm around chapter 28/29...(view spoiler)
Pinn hasn't reached his full obnoxious potential yet.
Crake's backstory...tougher than I remembered. (view spoiler)
