Both books discuss the body and ownership of it. The Husband Stitch, specifically, discusses the idea that there is a sense of ownership that is applied to women. That their bodies are not their own, but were made for someone else. Gay's book Hunger goes to the far end of this spectrum. But her body was violated and from that she expresses the concern that the PTSD, the memories, the shame, the emotions all control her body instead of her. And in the Husband Stitch, (view spoiler)
