G.G. (ggatcheson) | 467 comments Shadow Pack is a detective genre; however, it's filled with shifters, witches, wizard, and the protagonist, Michael Biörn, is one of those praeternaturals, but I'll let the readers discover what kind he is exactly. Mr. Daniel did a great job at leaving hints about it, which I thought was part of the fun.

The story reads well. If I have only one minus about it, it would have to be the length of the chapters. Although it helps with the switch of scenes, it also put a strain on the reading, since you always seem to start a new chapter. There are 168 chapters in this 293 pages book. Anyway, I understand why it's done. Aside from one or two chapters that could have been put in one, there could not be any other way to do it.

My favorite characters… well there were quite a few I liked. Of course, Michael is one of them, but I also loved Ez. There's always something about an old silly wizard that gets to my heart, so I hope we'll see more of him in the sequels. Over all, even if there were many characters, they were well developed.

Although it is part of a series, this is definitely a stand-alone. The readers will want to read more but there's absolutely no cliffhanger, so even if you'd want to read only one book, nothing should stop you.

I'd recommend this for fans of urban/contemporary fantasy, detective, or thrillers. Don't let the praeternatural genre stop you.
