Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have a question about the page numbers reported on GR for this version of the book The End of the Affair, which I have borrowed from my library. I cannot say I like the characters very much, but the story is interesting. I am crushed that the issue in the link is listed as only 160 pages though. That is only the length of the actual story in the volume I have from the library. What about the 27 pages of Introduction, and pages for Further Reading that are included?

My library lists it's characteristics as xxvii, 160, [4], 22cm
If these are added together it equals 192 pages, which is what I originally wrote down on my spread sheet for the hc - before I ordered and received the book from my library. There are several Penguin editions listed as 187 pages, which I would be happy to use. Why does GR not include the Introduction by Michael Gorra pages and Additional reading pages in the page count for the book?

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Yes. I couldn't figure out where else to put it. Janice said that we have GR librarians in our group. I wanted one of them to see it.

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I've moved it to "Chit Chat About Books" which is probably a better fit.

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I went to World Catalogue, and that edition is listed as "
XXVII, 160 S. ; 22 cm.", exactly the same as how your library listed it. Goodreads likely lists it according to the same metadata. I don't think GR's decides the length of the book. Maybe you should call your library and ask them how the page length was determined.

Lori Z | 2086 comments According to the Librarian's Manual introductory material that are numbered in Roman Numerals do not count for the page total. Hope this helps.

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments So in this case, the introduction is listed in Roman Numerals? What does the 22 cm stand for? Is that the additional reading pages that Cherie lists?

Thanks for your help, Lori!

You're welcome! I think the 22 cm is the size of the pages, but not sure.
