Farhanali | 4 comments In the book The Absolutely True Diary pf a part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie a relistic fiction novel. In my opinion I think that the book is good if you are into a character who is trying to find his path in life. For example the main character name is Arnold and is is trying to think should he stay at the reservation or to go to this school named Reardan and that he is deciding should he go or just stay. Another example is that he tries to find hope and tries to find hope. This book is also good if you are into a lot of Drama. For example he cries a lot and has to face many death from people he knows. Another example is when he cries about being poor. This shows that the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian has some emotion seen in it.
In my opinion I think that this book should not be banned in schools because it is explaining what is happening in the real world and how a young teenager like Arnold has to face many obstacles in life. I also think this because it tells us how lucky we are to have a normal life and that other kids like in a reservation don't have a normal life like we do.

Besa T | 3 comments In Sherman Alexis The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian realistic novel I actually really liked the book at first I thought I wasn't going to like it. As we read it I started to enjoy it and learn about how Arnold's life was different then any other child because he didn't have everything like how us kids have now. The other reason was because I never knew that there was ever a place called a reservation and as I read this book it helped me understand clearly what it was and how everyone lived whoever lived on the Rez it seemed like a really hard time for Arnold and his family because he was so different from everyone else and would get made fun of. This proves that I really liked the book because the author Sherman Alexis related this story to his life and Arnold is him because he wanted people to know how it was like living on the Rez and how he would always get judged because of how he looked that he was a brain grease survivor that's what caused him to look a certain way and talk differently. This proves that this book taught me a lot about how they lived because it's a big conflict for people who live on the Rez. If someone asked for what book to read I would recommend this to them they would probably also like it.

I don't think that this book should be band from many school districts because it's not like it's a bad book this book has a purpose to it and it is a true story because still today in this time there are people who still live on the Rez and have hardships that some people might not even know about it. Like at first I didn't know but when I read this book it taught me something so I think it shouldn't be banned because people should be able to read it and see what other things can be going on in the world today. The second reason why it shouldn't be banned is that because it's also a good book that you can have a huge discussion about and say like hey oh I didn't know this but now I know this. This proves that the book should no be banned it should be allowed in every school district.

Sammy | 25 comments The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, is a realistic fiction novel that tells the story of Arnold Spirit, Jr., a fourteen-year-old Native Indian who is constantly picked on because of his stutter, lisp, and hydrocephalic disorder. He feels out of place in his reservation and struggles to feel like he fits in anywhere.

I enjoyed reading the novel because it is filled with amusement. For example, the conversations between characters are humorous. The author uses descriptive words, such as eimoutaheer (I’m out of here), to show the different ways characters express themselves. The words are spelled in an unusual way, which makes the text more interesting and entertaining. I also enjoyed reading the novel because I was able to make a connection between Arnold and myself. Arnold and I had trouble believing in ourselves. For example, Arnold believed that since he is Indian, he thought that he could not achieve who he wanted to be in the future. Furthermore, I used to have a hard time believe in myself when I thought that I couldn’t do something. I realized that I could achieve anything if I try.

I believe that The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian should not be banned in many school districts because the novel is full of life lessons. The novel teaches readers to have hope and to create meaningful identities. Sherman Alexie shares the idea that people should believe in themselves and pursue their dreams. He shares this message through Arnold’s journey. For example, Arnold went to Reardan High School to make a better life for himself. He was able to change his life for the better because he had hope and never gave up. Arnold’s experiences also help people to understand that everyone has their own identity. Sherman Alexie shows readers that it is important not to be judgmental and to accept others for who they are. For example, Arnold accepted his own identity and learned to see himself as a person from many different tribes, and appreciated what makes him unique.

Arian Q | 1 comments I did like the book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian". The books perspective was about a Native American who lives in poverty. When me and my class, (812) first started to read this book I thought to myself that this book was going to be boring and I would not like it at all. But that thought changed, and it changed a lot. The character that I focused on in this book was Arnold Spirit, a fourteen year old boy who lived on the Spokane Reservation. Arnold Spirit went to school at WellPinit but transferred to Reardan High School. Arnold Spirit decided to transfer to Reardan High School because he had thought staying in WellPinit wouldn't get him anywhere and going to Reardan would absolutely get him somewhere he would really want to be. As Arnold got used to Reardan he started to make new friends such as Penelope, Gordy, and Roger. Arnold's friends care about him and so did the teachers in Reardan. As I got to the ending of the book, I learned that Arnold experienced a lot of sad, and unforgettable things in his life. His grandmother, sister, and Arnold's dad friend had died. But Arnold stayed strong and so did his loved ones. Arnold has learned that being perfect is not important, what you have in your brain is. Overall, the book "The Absolutey True Diary of a Part Time Indian" was amazing!

The book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie should not be banned. This book should not be banned because children all over the world can have a chance to read this book and those children may like it and may learn a lot from it. This book may have some words/language that is not good for children to hear but their is some moments in the book where children can learn something from, for example, Arnold says that he never would and never will drink alcohol when he gets older because it is very very bad for you. Another example is, never harm your close friends or family members because what goes around comes around. These are life lessons that children really need to think about as they get older. Overall, this is why this book should not be banned.

Ekram (Dragontamer3000) | 3 comments In the book, "The Absolutely True of a Part Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie is a great book. It about Arnold who was a native american kid who is poor who switched school and abandoned his tribe. Then his Grandmother, his dad's friend, and his sister who died because of alcohol. One reason why I like this book is because it shows a true life about a boy who faced many challenges. Another reason would be it shows lots of lessons in the book like not to drink or it can have serious problems. This shows that this book is really good and shows lots of lessons.

This book should not be banned. This book shows a lot of life lessons in the book, for an example like if drink you can face lots of conciseness like dying or going to jail, and because of that Arnold faced even more problems but got excepted. This proves that this book "The Absolutely True of a Part Time Indian" should not be banned in different types of schools because it inspires people.

Brooke Christina | 2 comments In Sherman Alexis, The Absolutely True Part Of An Indian, I really liked the book. I was always so excited to find out what was going to happen next because they never give you hints that things are going to happen, it just happens. One reason why I like the book is because its really funny, the way he describes things is in funny way. Another reason is there are a lot of life lessons, sometimes the life lessons are even between the lines. This book wasn't like any book I've ever read, it was really different and interesting to read. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book.

The book should be banned. One reason is because has bad language. Once a kid hears those type of words, they end up using it and it could even get them in trouble sometimes. I understand why it isn't banned in some schools and that's because it teaches us plenty of lessons. The positive and negative features of this book. You just have to know that your reading the book to mature kids that wont repeat thebad language.

Delandre J | 2 comments I enjoyed reading Sherman Alexie's realistic fiction novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part - Time Indian. One reason is that it the main protagonist, Arnold Spirit creates cartoons because he feels that is the only way he can escape the outside world of the poor Spokane Indian Reservation. The reason why Arnold creates cartoons is because he gets bullied on the reservation because he is a hydrocephalus. Another reason why I enjoyed the book is because it shows how alcohol can affect you and others. Most people on the reservation drink because I think that it's the only way for them to escape the world and their problems, same thing with Arnold and his cartoons. Arnold's parents sometimes drink, but the person who has been mostly affected by alcohol is Arnold's best friend Rowdy. Rowdy's father drinks all the time, causing him to beat his son and Rowdy's mother. This affects Rowdy because he treats others the same way his father treats him.

I think that this book shouldn't be banned in many school districts because it shows how much life can change by following your dreams. For example, Arnold Spirit wanted to transfer schools because he felt that his school Wellpinit and the reservation didn't have any hope, so he transferred to Reardon, which is twenty two miles away from the reservation. Since Arnold is poor, it is hard for him to get to school, but Arnold was very determined. This shows that when you follow your dreams, you can reach it no matter the later obstacles you have to overcome. Another example is that this book has mild language so it's not suitable for children without a parent's permission, but the story is in the perspective of a 14 - year - old who overcome many obstacles because of his reservation drinks and Arnold didn't want to have that same future as everybody else, and that this book shows how one drop of alcohol can affect you and others. This shows that the book has multiple themes that are great for teens and young teens to know how much a small idea or action can Have a great impact on you and others.
