A near-future speculative fiction crime thriller that I couldn't put down.
Anna Glover, disgraced airline investigator, is hired by a start-up looking to develop their memory-tapping virtual reality "synapse sequencer" for criminal investigations. The police, like many other industries, are being run by artificial intelligence programs while more and more of the population is just living on the universal income. When the disappearance of a rich teenage girl does not flag a high response from the authorities Anna is contracted to assist the private investigator. The girl's foster brother was himself the victim of a crime, now lying in a coma. Anna and her technician work to find relevant information in the injured boy's memories but discover evidence of a deeper conspiracy.
