I think the book takes place around the 30's. It's possible the title has the word hummingbird in it. I used to own the book along with others by the author but I don't know what happened to them. I also had Anne Tyler books, a name I remembered, so I looked her up but the book I'm looking for isn't by her after all. The widow is fairly young. I can't remember if she had any children. She hires a homeless wanderer to help around the house since she is newly widowed. I just watched a movie on PixL called Hidden Places based on the book by the same name written by Lynn Austin. Hidden Places REALLY reminded me of the book I'm looking for but it's definitely not it.

I posted this elsewhere as well and I had said on that post that sometimes my mind thought it might be the name of a flower. I took a screenshot of the post to show you but I don't know how to post it here. I'm glad that my mind wasn't completely playing tricks on me!
