Melinda stopped smiling when she heard the killing part.

"What?" Charlotte said. She knew that her mother sometimes executed citizens, but three? In one day?
The king didn't feel like eating, and simply tried to smile. Times for this kingdom were getting tough. More people were getting killed each day, hardships were growing, and Fayview was falling into despair.
Melinda used her fork and twisted her pasta around it like a coil.
"Yes, Charlotte, it's the hard reality," He said sadly.
"It's just so tragic. I wish that there was something we could do," she said.
Melinda looked up sadly. They most likely predicted she had no idea what was going on, but she knew more than they thought.
"I know, but then Lilith would kill us all," he replied with a sigh.
"It's okay, Melinda," said Charlotte, sensing her sister's emotions.
"True, very true," Charlotte said in reply to the king.
"I'll try just to keep us safe at the least," He told them a bit darkly.
Melinda tried to gocus on the table cloth, the little strings all intertwined together, the utensils... anything but her mother because of the fear it brought her.
"I mean, nobody is evil enough to execute their own children. Anyways, we're all royalty. Any order that she gives the executers could simply be told to ignore by any of us," said Charlotte.
"Meli, it's okay, you'll be safe," The king assured her.
"A cupcake?" she asked Adriana but not as enthusiastically as the first time.
((Ughh … I hate doing that.))
Meli hopped off the chair she was sitting in, and scoited off.
“Hello, Adrianna. How are you this fine day?”
