Trish, they both work. Now you just have to decide which to read! Good luck. They both look good.

:-)

Yes, Nicole, that looks like a gate to me. Enjoy!

Or regarding option 5, is it ok to read a book in another language? The book I thought about reading Unelmakuolema is a Finnish book and the main character is an anesthesiologist (=nukutuslääkäri).

Jasmina, I can see a doorway at the top of the stairs, so Robert Browning: Poems is approved for option 1.
Regarding Unelmakuolema, an anesthesiologist is a doctor, but I am unable to get the description translated in order to know if the storyline meets the requirement of option 5. It is not enough that the main character be a doctor; rather the story must center around his medical practice in some way. At this time, I am not going to approve this book.

Ok, poetry it is then. =) Thank you.

Decided to go for Curtsies & Conspiracies here, and use Without a Summer in one of the tasks needing "romance" as a genre!

Enjoy!

Yes, I will accept The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder for option 5.

Yes, this book works for option 1.

No, Karen, this book does not work as it is about an EMT, and the task requires a doctor, nurse or midwife as a main character.

Did you mean option 5, Pia? If so, then yes.
I do not believe it would be on either list for option 4; but if it is, please provide the name of the list and page found on.

No, Book Concierge, it was always there. I just expanded it a bit.

Oops... yes, I meant Option 5.
Thanks!

Anyway great task and looking at the following book for Option 5 consideration
The Honorary Consul The doctor is the main protagonist and all the characters are people he treats at his practice and the reason things happen is mainly because hes a doctor (and a knobhead).
Thanks

I would really like to say yes to you for this book, but I cannot. The Wikipedia review indicates that the main story of the book is centered around the rebels taking the wrong man (the Honorary Consul instead of the US ambassador) and the secondary story is more about his affair with Fortnum's wife. Although he is a doctor, neither story is centered on his practice. His profession is used as a ruse in a plot against the rebels. This book is not approved.
As an aside, I have been wanting to read this book for awhile. I hope you find somewhere to fit it in.

Have a great christmas x

Would One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest work for Option 5? It takes place in a psychiatric hospital and I believe Nurse Ratched is a main character. I have some other options if this doesnt work. Thanks.

Megan, this is a borderline book for the intent of the task as nurse Ratched is a secondary protagonist; but, since the book is about the psychiatric treatment and her role is prime to that story, I will allow it.
Just a reminder, please post links when asking about books so the responder is sure they have the right book in mind. For this question, however, it was not necessary since the ruling is about the story not the particular edition.

Hi Bea - Thanks for the quick reply. Have a great day.

Sure. The genre is present. Approved for option 3.

Hello! I won an ARC of The Reluctant Midwife: A Hope River Novel

The main character is a public health nurse who is working with a midwife. However, they are in the mountains of West Virginia, not a clinic or other medical setting. Is this acceptable for option 5?

Yes. The GR description supports that the story is about her medical practice in a rural settting.

It's been shelved as Historical Fiction by 39 readers and GR description says it takes place at the beginning of the last century

Pia, from my research it appears to fit the bill for option 2 - historical fiction. Approved.

Great! Thanks

Yes, that genre counts. Added to approved list.

Thank you"
No, I was thinking more of a medical doctor, since that was my father's profession.

Ok, thanks for the clarification

I don't really see a doorway but will accept this book for Option 2: Historical Fiction as the genre is present. Approved for Option 2.
