So, I was discussing about Mockingjay recently with some friends and they were asking about where would District 13 be. I just told them because I have read the book. But they said that it makes it less interesting if you have read the book and then watch the movie. I disagree, of course. I think everyone has their own imaginations while reading any book. So, what do you think? Does it make you less or more interested to see the movie?

I think if you haven't read the book, you can't actually have an opinion of whether it's boring or not to have read it first. People who are too lazy to read, think reading is boring in general and don't get why you'd want to read a story when you can just watch the movie. It's much faster and alot less work. I used to think that way.
Personally, I think it could take away from the movie experience a little to know every little detail before it happens, but I like to know the story first because I enjoy seeing it come to life on screen. And then of course in movies like this one, you're not freaking out when it cuts off in the middle with no resolution. You know who's going to die and can therefore appreciate their time on screen and their significance to the story.
I like to read the book first (because otherwise I probably never will) with enough time in between so that I don't remember all the details. Ideally anyway. If I don't have time for that, I'll read it right before I see the movie. I feel like with the movie, you're not getting the whole story. You get more of a summary - someone else's interpretation, and to me, that's not the best way to go. A good movie will give more depth to a story you already love, but it's usually incomplete by itself.

I agree with you. If you has read the book before the movie, you love it. And in my opinion the scenario of the film make the hunger games lovers so proud of the film and the book. I love the book and when i saw the film I fell in love the ensemble. Although I know people who hate the film. I disagree with them. Of course are some things that I would like to saw but any film has got every moment that you like to watch in the screen. That is a little bit of my opinion. Sorry if you don't understand something but I'm Spanish and my English has to improve so much. Thanks for her me, well for read me.

i suppose for some people it considerably lessens the anticipation and surprise factor if you've read TMj before watching the movie because you already know how the story will progress and then there are those who make a fuss just because not everything from the book was in the film or there where changes and differences blah blah. The good thing about the film though is that it gives the audience "the bit beyond Katniss" (e.g. the district uprisings, the rebel attacks) which is something the book doesn't really focus that much on and that makes it great to watch even if you know what's gonna happen next. Also there are things in the movie that you're not really gonna understand or appreciate that much if you haven't read the book first, especially the little details (like buttercup's story for instance XD)

for me no because you get to watch the story unfold with visual people and how their actual reactions work sometimes the movie is better than the book but most times its the other way around but its up to you.
When Life of Pi came out in the cinema, I wasn't interested in reading the book beforehand because the movie was so visually beautiful. But when Gone Girl came out in the cinema, I decided to read the book first because I was sure I miss out on vital details.
