message 51: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly said"yes I believe"

message 52: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "You believe?" He looked at his phone. "All males ages 19-22 are required to run a mile in nine minutes and complete 50 push-ups and sit-ups in one minute." He looked at her. "You can do that?"

message 53: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments She looked at him and said" I can do close, I can run a mile in 11 minutes and do 30 push ups and sit ups."

message 54: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan crossed his arms. "There are a number of rules you need to follow as an Agent. Most of them are coddling bullshit. If you want to be paid and respected like a man, I expect-and require-you meet the physical requirements of men of your age. We will exercise every morning an hour before work. Did you ever operate a firearm prior to the academy?"

message 55: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments She looked at him and nodded and says" okay, and yes I did operate a firearm" she looked down.

message 56: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "Hey, eyes up here; you look away from a suspect and you will appear weak. Why should I answer your questions if you won't meet my eyes, hm?" He leaned forward, elbows on the table. "How accurate are you? Can you get a four-inch spread at 20 feet with your sidearm?"

message 57: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments She looked up at him and said" I never said I was good, I can get a person straight in the head if im ready." she didn't dare look down now. She watched him waiting for more.

message 58: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "Why," he asked, voice even more harsh and eyes narrowing, "would you need to get a person 'straight in the head' if your job as an officer of the law is to administer peace and justice? Rule number 1: A suspect is not a target. He is an objective. Understand?"

(one thing she's undoubtedly heard over and over at ISDA Academy is that killing someone is the absolute last resort at all times)

message 59: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments She sighed and nods. She really didnt like this person she said" will you be training me every morning or will someone else do it?"

message 60: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "I will. It's unreasonable to expect you to operate at the necessary level if I didn't supervise."

message 61: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments She nods and knew at that point she didnt really like him, he was rude.

message 62: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan sat back again, arms re-crossed. "Congratulations on getting through the Academy. I'll see you monday morning?"

message 63: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments She nodded and said" can I leave?"

message 64: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan shrugged. "I was going to get dinner. Elizabeth should stop hitting on you."

message 65: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments She nodded and got up

message 66: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "I'll see you Monday, then."

(Timelapse?)

That Monday, Alan was waiting by the front door of the 5-floor building. Hr wore a long, black coat against the cold morning air. On his belt was his badge, shining proudly, and his sidearm, a large Kimberley Night Warrior in 10mm auto. It was old (10+ years) but not outdated. He pushed himself.from the wall he was leaning against as she came up the walkway. "Good morning. You need to meet Director Richson, then I'll introduce you to the other agents, then we'll go to the range. Unfortunately we're cold until you get cleared for field duty. And good morning."

message 67: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly awoke and got up grabbed her clothing put it on. she ate breakfast then put a long coat on and headed to the 5-floor building. She unfortunnly didnt have a car yet so she had to walk. she was greeted by Alan. She nodded and said" good morning"

message 68: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan held one of the double-doors open for her and followed her in. A receptionist at a large, wooden desk to the left of the door looked up from her computer to wave as Alan directed Kelly to go right. "Left is a bunch of offices for desk-jockeys. Everything important is this way." They moved through a short hallway with two doors on other side. "Male and female bathrooms, janitorial closet, and Human Resources." They turned a corner with double-doors; he let her into a wide room with several pairs of desks, each equipped with a computer, binder, and office supplies. At each, detective and their partner sat. Everyone was at their stations a half-hour before their shift started.

Alan stopped. "Goodmorning, everyone."
A general response greeted them.
"This is the greenback, Ms. Kelly (lastname?). Kelly, this is the A-Team."

message 69: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly nodded and listned to everything he said and says "good morning"

message 70: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments A few "Goodmornings" were returned. At the back of the room, a thick wooden office door opened and a large gentlemen in a dress shirt and suspenders came out to greet them. "Ms. Kelly, we've met on the phone. I'm Director Dylano." He offered a hand to shake. "You should get a packet from HR telling you what's going on. Anything else, Detective Hawke can fill you in."

(Hawke being Alan's last name. Also, I'd appreciate if you tried to match my volume. Am I not giving you enough detail to respond to, or have you lost interest because Alan was a jerk at the bar?)

message 71: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments ((sorry I will answer more and Kelly last name is Sullivan))

Kelly watched a man step out and she said" Hello Director Dylano, yes I remember you" she shook his hand. She nodded and said" okay, thanks sir" She looked at everyone and then looked at Alan. She said" sir do you know when I will be getting the packet?" she looked at him because as Detective Hawke had said not to look down because it made her appear weak.

message 72: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan shrugged. "We can swing by HR right now."
Dylano nodded. "You'll see that I run a tight ship, Ms. Sullivan. You should get cleared for duty within a few days. In the mean time, I'm sure HR has plenty of t's to cross and i's to dot." He turned and walked back to his office.
"Unfortunately, HR is always in a good mood," Alan said as he headed back in their department's direction. "It's their job, I guess."

HR's department was very large, about 400 square feet. Six desks were manned by four men and two women; a box of donuts with a "Feel free to take one, have a great day" sign and a smiley face adjacent was by the door. "Goodmorning Agent Hawke," an older, motherly woman closest to the door greeted. "Goodmorning, Meredith. This is-"
"Ms. Sullivan, I know." She got up from her desk and approached them. "How are you settling in? Has Alan finished his asshole routine yet?"

message 73: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly nodded and said" okay, sir" She headed to HR with Alan. They got to a lady and Kelly found out that her name was Meredith, she smiles and laughs and says" not yet, Ma'am. It is a pleasure to meet you Miss" she smiled and looked up To Alan and smiled. The building had very large , she had never been in a building like this let alone seen one. She looked around the building and it was a beautiful building.

message 74: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Meredith, head of HR, grabbed a folder from her desk. "A lot of your information transferred from Academy, but it doesn't hurt to double-check. Blood type, date of birth, social security, all that." She held the folder out for her. "Same as any job."

message 75: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly watched her and nodded. She looked through the folder and says' there good", and looked at Alan and said" do you have one of these?" she looked at his face because she didnt like looking at his eyes.

message 76: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "Of course. Everyone had to fill one out when they started here. Mine is locked away in a filing cabinet somewhere."

Meredith mentioned the donuts before returning to her desk. "Turn that back in by the end of the day. If you have any problems, that's what HR is here for. Have a great day, both of you."

Alan touched her arm. "C'mon, you can fill that out later. I want to know how well you can shoot."

message 77: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly Nodded and says to Meredith" I will" She felt his touch and flinched. She don't think he ever touched her but she nods and says" alright, and were are we going so I can shoot?" She walked out next to him, she felt as if she annoyed him by asking to many questions so she decided to keep quite for the whole day even if was the first day.

message 78: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "There's a firing range in the basement. You won't be assigned a weapon until you're cleared, so I'll have to sign one out for you." When they left the HR office (presumably with no one around), he looked at her: "Hey. I am sorry if I came off like an asshole the other night. But lives are at stake and I expect everyone to be taking this job seriously."

message 79: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly nodded and said" its alright, and I respect that, your just doing your job" she looked at him and says" what weapon do you have?" She looked straight. She mad a mental note to get a lot of sleep that night. She waited for his reply while looking around.

message 80: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan stopped when they reached an elevator. He poked the "Down" button, then drew the Kimberly Night Warrior from its holster. He removed the magazine and reflexively pulled the slide to empty the chamber, even though policy was to never have a round in the chamber while in the building (old habits died hard, after all). "KNW special in ten-millimeter. Set me back a fortune." He held it up for her to inspect, but not to touch. The elevator dinged and he entered. "Hit the button with the giant B," he ordered, returning the magazine to the pistol and the pistol to its holster.

message 81: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly stopped in then got in the elevator and watched him push the down button. She looked at the magazine and then at the gun and says" nice gun" she heard the ding and then hit the button with the Giant B on it. She says" who was in this position before me, and why did I get choose with you?" she wants asking in a harsh way.

message 82: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "Agent Francis Scott. Took two rounds to the chest during a hostage rescue," Alan replied emotionlessly. "Didn't work very hard." He shrugged and watched the elevator doors close. "Carried a .45 in h-p, couldn't handle kevlar."

(HP meaning hollow point, designed to be effective against people but not go through walls to minimize the risk of hurting innocents standing behind them. Several police shoot-outs have ended fatally because HP is useless against bullet proof vests)

message 83: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly looked at him and says" he's dead?" she saw he had no emotions. She looked at him in disbelief. How could he just sit there with out emotion, he must be real heartless.

message 84: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "He fucked up. He went through a door alone, didn't check his corners, and paid the price. The Academy has since tightened its training in forced entry and counter-terror operations."

message 85: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly nodded and said" yeah that was a pretty stupid choice of him to make." she looked at him and said" who trained you when you first came here." the elevator got to the basement.

message 86: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "When I got my first field assignment?" He asked, trying to clarify as they exited the elevator. "Dylano. But he lost his kneecaps last year and got moved up to management. Before that it was my DI. Made the Academy a cakewalk."

The basement, as could be expected, was cold. The walls were all concrete. A massive, sliding metal wall divided where they were from the parking lot. Several sections were fenced in and guarded. They came to a wooden box manned by an older latino who buzzed them through an electromagnetic door. "Hasus, I need to sign out an SI in forty and two boxes." Alan pulled some paperwork from his coat. Hasus looked it over, stamped it, and called over his shoulder for another man, who came out with a small, locked case, key, and two boxes of .40S&W ammunition. Alan took the case and the key, letting her handle the ammo. "The range is just down there." He pointed at a series of concrete stalls in a plastic bubble.

message 87: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly said" im impressed, you look like a guy who takes his job very serious." she looked at him and said' what did you do before all this?"

message 88: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "Some of this, some of that." He started walking in the range's direction. "Shot people, got shot at."

message 89: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly looked at him and followed and says"wow, I have never been shot at" she looked him up and down. he was muscular.

message 90: by Applejaxc (last edited Dec 14, 2014 05:42PM) (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "That'll probably change soon," he remarked offhandedly. He keyed a buzzer at the door of the range and alerted whoever was at the firecontrol desk the range would be hot for the next half-hour before unlocking the door and letting them in. "You did know that signing up for this job, right?" He swiped hearing protection from the counter at the center stall and held them out for her. "They're battery-operated; we can hear each other fine, but when something gets too loud, foam on the inside fills it. Real fancy. Don't break it." He set the case on the counter and slid the key into the lock. Inside in black hexagonal foam was a Glock in .40. "At the academy they start you at .22 for practice, then up to 9mm and then to this, right? You'll be issued one of these, but you're free to buy your own and clear it with the armory."

(Some clarification may be necessary here:

.22 is a very small bullet, little recoil. Cheap and good for practice. Strong enough to kill a rat.

9mm is currently a very popular self-defence round. It is also cheap and it's loud enough to scare people out of your backyard. As far as I know, most police stations in the US have their officers carrying Glocks in 9mm.

10mm is a relatively new, large, expensive ((because it isn't popular)), high-recoil round that will put the fear of God in any would-be attacker. There are a lot of issues with using it in pistols. Because it is so large, it is hard to fit many in one magazine, and it is difficult for female shooters to use due to-on average-smaller hands. It isn't impossible, but I can't say I know any women that like 10mm. Unlike 9mm, it can more reliably penetrate windshields and walls. Modern SWAT units use MP5/10s, which are MP5s rechambered-changed to use-10mm instead of 9mm

.40 Smith and Wesson is a 10mm basically cut in half. It is easier to fit more than 10 in one magazine and it finds a comfortable middle ground between killing power and functionality. After that fatal shooting in Miami where several FBI agents were killed by gunmen in body armor, the FBI decided to make .40S&W the standard ammunition for their agents. Because the ISDA in this story is like the FBI all grown up, they've kept .40 as the standard.
Alan carries a pistol in 10mm for several reasons. 1, because he-like many people-say that the "S&W" in the name means "Short and Weak" not "Smith and Wesson." 2, he doesn't trust .40 to stop someone fast enough. He gets away with it because of his reputation with the Agency, and because he has the strength and firearm experience necessary to use it safely.

That is all information that Kelly should have learned by graduation. If you need me to clarify more, I'd be happy to. The above is mostly what I've taken off of Wikipedia and heard from crazy family members, so take it with a grain of salt.

It is entirely your decision how proficient you want Kelly to be. She could take Alan's 10mm and get a 1-inch grouping at 10 yards or it might break her wrist. It's your character; I can't make that decision for you.

And to clarify again: a x-inch grouping is referring to how far apart the bullet holes are in a target. A 1-inch grouping means every hole is within 1 inch of the others, which is incredible at 30 feet

Also: Glocks are popular because they're very cheap and they have a reputation for reliability. I personally like the way they look but I don't like them. They have a lot of problems like their rolling-slide action. If you push the barrel against a flat wall then pull away, the weapon will discharge. A lot of accidental shootings have happened that way. Kelly can have whatever pistol you think looks cool or has a cool name. Since this story is in a slightly alternate future, we can even make something up if you would like.)

message 91: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly watched him and looked at the box and when she saw the gun she smiled. she looked up and said" can I touch it?"

message 92: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "Of course." Alan hit some buttons on the counter that caused a circle target to appear at 5 and 10 yards (15/30 feet), then stepped away. "Take the safety off whenever you're ready. I want you to put ten rounds on either target."

message 93: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly had picked it up and looked at the target and had took off the safety and had shot one of the targets.

message 94: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments (Well, she would have had to have loaded it first,.since weapons aren't stored with bullets in them, but we can assume she would)

The ear muffs worked as described, muffling sound before the shot hurt her ears. Alan nodded, waited for the muffler to soften, then told her to use the rest without stopping. "Feet flat, firm grip, breathe slowly, shoulder height, lean forward, stay focused."

message 95: by It’s.Annie (new)

It’s.Annie (itsannieeee) | 422 comments Kelly looked at Alan and said" okay sir" she did as told and this time she shot the rest without stopping. She was really focused, or at least she tried to be.

message 96: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments When the last bullet was fired and the slide locked back to let the operator know it was empty, Alan uncrossed his arms. He fiddled with the controls on the counter until the two targets came back to them. He observed without comment.

(Your call how well she did)
