Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments Hello:)

message 2: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Hello. What kind of RPs do you normally do?

message 3: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I do many like Action, Romance, mystery, thriller, etc.

message 4: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Right. Plenty of buzzwords. I meant more like, do you like RPs to explore the evolving relationships between man and machine, the shifting social, political, and economic status of different groups split by race, class, or sectionalism in a grand story that seeks to define what is a "Citizen," an urban-dwelling... you get the idea. Maybe there's an idea you've had an idea for some time you'd like to share? OR at least a character you can tell me about so I have an idea of what you enjoy?

message 5: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I do many rp's that could include a rebellion or a spy on a mission. I actually am interested in a superhero one but not marvel.

message 6: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments I don't really like superhero stories; I prefer the characters not be overly powerful.

message 7: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I understand

message 8: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments So instead...? Medieval fantasy seems like what's easy for everyone to understand, but I also enjoy science fiction. As far as wildly throwing out ideas, I have these:

Young adult (17-20) attendees of military academic institution (West Point, et cetera, except for something scifi)

Male and female members of FBI-type organization preventing domestic terrorism and solving crazy crimes

Prince who wants to make peace between humans and elves (and other races?) needs to remove the racist king and queen from power without starting a violent revolution

message 9: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I like the men and female FBI organization thing

message 10: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Well. I've been sitting on an idea for a while in a slightly-alternate-history US of A 10 (or so) years in the future. In place of the FBI, the Inter State Detective Agency (ISDA) has jurisdiction over all cases that cross state lines or concern domestic security that isn't under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court (situations with ambassadors, et cetera).
US involvement in the middle east has nearly ended, but oil-hungry Russia, China, and India have all turned their eyes to the deserts.
A growing religious-political movement (cult) is growing in power, albeit slowly. The Church of Reformation celebrates the enigmatic, mysterious "William."

ISDA training is as follows:
Written and multiple choice exam (similar to the ASVAB, ACT, SAT, or AP testing?) and a physical qualification course (minimum pushups, sit ups, pull ups, and ability to run 1 mile in under 10 minutes).
Candidates go to school in Quantico, Virginia (formerly the training ground and offices of the FBI) where they learn law and police procedures, pass firearm qualifications, take another test, and take another physical exam (with stricter requirements), then get assigned to a ISDA field office.

Normally in this scenario, the female is recently out of academy (or still relatively new) and was either newly assigned or transferred (for whatever reason you'd like) to the ISDA FoB in Newhaven, North Carolina, a quickly growing eastern port city with a steadily increasing crime late.

message 11: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments That's amazing!!!

message 12: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments I just wanted to know:

1: Are you comfortable with the cliche, older/more experienced man as the lead detective and the young/inexperienced female is his partner?

2: How familiar are you with police/military procedure and terminology? Firearms? When I play a character like the one designed for this RP (who was dishonorably discharged from the Marine Corps before joining the ISDA), I mix in a lot of "Alpha" this "Omega Foxtrot" that and sometimes I get a little technical (I never refer to a weapon as just a "Pistol" or "assault rifle"; I use names like Sig Sauer 556, or Avtomat, et cetera, and-in order to avoid repeating the same word several times in one post-will change between the object's name and its calibre)

3: How comfortable are you with Science Fiction? This particular setting is low-scifi, meaning it has nonreal elements but never unbelievable ones. There are no lasers, spaceships, or killer robots. There IS however a growing popularity, mostly among late-teen to young-adult (17-24), of "Body augmentation." Tattoos, while still prevalent, are not nearly as "Cool" as they once were; many people now get surgical implants of semi-functional modifications, like a tail or animal ears or canine incisors.
Ripley's "Believe It Or Not" theatres, as you can imagine, have gone out of business.
The ISDA has a zero tolerance policy on body augmentation the way most US police stations do now. For some agents, subdermal augmentations are permitted (the world of prosthetics and grafting has allowed humans to replace their organs with superior ones. The difference isn't inhuman, but it is considerable. There are also bone-strengthening injections that fill air pockets with alloys depending on how much you can pay, thyroid replacements, et cetera. A LOT of this stuff is only recently out of the experimentation stage, however, and the ISDA is hesitant to allow agents to use what could potentially catastrophically malfunction and result in their death and a failed investigation)

message 13: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments 1. Yes I'm very comfortable with that.

2. I'm somewhat familiar but I do research so I won't use just a simple weapon name.

3. I'm usually not comfortable with Science Fiction but I am taking risks and trying new genres.

message 14: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments 3: How willing are you to take risks and try new genres? Is there something you've never tried before, but want to?

message 15: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments 3. I'm willing to fully take as much risks to do new genres. Mostly I have been wanting to do Science fiction.

message 16: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments 3: How Science Fiction? It's a broad spectrum. We could be talking near-future, people-replacing-arms-with-cybernetic-parts or we could be talking galaxy far, far away with spaceships and aliens. I'm comfortable with either one, but it would help narrow down ideas.

message 17: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments 3. Science fiction near-future. Something kind of like I robot if you have seen that movie.

message 18: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Yes I've seen (and read) I, Robot.

Then there's my above suggestion of male-female detectives in the near-future fighting cybernetics (and worse). Or a war in the near-future, or anything you want.

message 19: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I've watched it. We can do your suggestion. I like it more then mine.

message 20: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments What is your suggestion? I don't want to swamp you if you don't find it interesting.

message 21: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I don't have any suggestion what you have is perfect I'm really willing to try it.

message 22: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Okay. Well in that case...

Normally I open this RP by my character inviting your character (who was recently transferred and hasn't started working yet) to a bar to meet, but it hasn't gone over spectacularly with the other people here. Which means, I'm going to need a second to think of an original exposition, and I need to restart my computer and shower anyway. Give me like... 30 minutes, and I'll wowzazzle your pants off.

message 23: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments Alright I will be ready when you are.

message 24: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments 1: How does your character feel about prosthetics/cybernetics/body augmentation? Like tattoos, many people are disgusted by teenagers walking around with cat ears and tails. The ISDA has a zero-tolerance policy on it.

2: How long did your character spend at the ISDA Academy? (Minimum 2 years, must be 19+ to join). Did she specialize? (Law, military breaching and entry ((like SWAT)), relations?)

3: How old is she? (at least 21)

4: Are you comfortable with non-heterosexual relationships?

5: How experienced is she with firearms? (Specifically the one she was assigned, likely a .40S&W calibre, unless she has unusually large hands)

6: She was transferred to New Haven, North Carolina; did this force her to end a relationship (or miss out on one) when the other person didn't follow?

7: Can she stomach gore? (Serial killer mass-decapitations?)

message 25: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments 1. Yes she's fine with all of that. She isn't a judge of those she isn't disgusted because there is beauty in everyone.

2. She spent over three years at ISDA academy. She specialized in SWAT and Military Relations.

3. 22

4. Yes I am (Sorry not used to the words of heterosexual)

5. Ever since she was only eighteen years old she has been training with firearms specifically with a .40S&W Calibre.

6. She broke off her long two year relationship when she was transferred. Before she left she lost her father who was a Sergeant Major in the Marine Corp. Her mother was a military nurse for the red cross.

7. She can handle stomach gore (Serial Killer Mass-decaptiations.)

message 26: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I forgot to ask since this will be science fiction will the agents be normal without abilities or with abilities?

message 27: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments 1. Alright

2. Alright. Then she's well-trained in hostage situations, breaching/entering, and with firearms, and hopefully in good shape (Like the FBI HRT, the ISDA's counter-terror units are very demanding)

3. Alright

4. It's alright. I didn't want to say "Is she okay with gay and lesbian relationships" because I thought it would be too much of a mouthful.

5. In the United States (I don't know where you live, so) a citizen must be 21 to own a handgun and 18 to own a shotgun or rifle. She doesn't have to own any, of course; people can rent weapons to practice at firing ranges

6. Do you mean the mother was a nurse and, after retiring, left to work with Red Cross? I don't know if Red Cross uses military personnel (they might?)

7. Alright

And it's a low-SciFi setting, meaning there aren't a lot of "Abilities." No psionics, mental powers, superheroes, spaceships, or lasers. Neither character has anything special, except their training and teamwork.

message 28: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments 5. She practiced with her dad with firearms at firing ranges rentals only and I'm not allowed to tell where I live.

6. Yes she was retired from the Red Cross and now is a regular nurse at the VA.

Okay I wanted to make sure so I'm glad I clarified that with you.

message 29: by Janelle (last edited Dec 12, 2014 07:05PM) (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments I forgot to put she's also combat proficient and an expert in under cover missions.

message 30: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments 10/12/2036:

(Your character) arrived in New Haven Saturday morning. The New Haven field office had a contract with an apartment complex a block away, securing cheap rooms for agents that hadn't found a house. The owner, Terry Pratchett, and his son offered to help her move her clothes (and other belongings?) to the bedroom-bathroom-half kitchen room. The single dresser boasted an old TV and the oven only had one burner, but the Internet connection was solid and the building was situated between a few bars, a theatre, some restaurants, and other niceties. Most importantly, it was a safe neighborhood.

Sunday afternoon, the day before work officially started, she received a text from her partner, who she had not yet met:

Blueboar Bar and Brewery tonight 19h00

(meet at a bar down the street at 7PM)

message 31: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments The move Mercedes has dealt with was hard though it was more difficult to come to get unpacked in an apartment. Once I finished getting help from the owner Terry and his son. She started to move her clothes and other belongings inside of her new temporary home, she didn't pay attention to what appliances were inside of it assuring Terry she can fix them easily. Her more important priorities are too get ready and meet her new partner as long as she was in a safe place and has a great job it would be very easy for her.

After taking a nice shower and getting dressed checking the text from her mysterious partner, she stood up and got looking for her clothes to meet them. Though she knew she didn't want to look like an agent immediately she has to look like she had some authority but also fit in the bar without being seen as a threat. Even though she knew many agents have gone to that bar she never said anything about it though only sending her partner a reply.

Affirmative.

message 32: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments The Blueboar Bar and Brewery was divebar at its finest:
Terrible indie music mixed with the drone of inane chatter, rising in intensity as the patrons disapproved of decisions made by whatever sports team blurred across the outdated television. Food and drinks were overpriced and had to be ordered at the counter. The only available booth was in the opposite corner; while comfortable, the table was half-covered in something blue and sticky and a sickly green lamp directly overhead that cast the rest of the room in shadow.

message 33: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments Leaving exactly ten minutes before seven Mercedes headed to the bar after locking her door and making sure she looked fine she went down the stairs of the apartment. She walked to The Blueboar Bar and Brewery she glanced around looking for a seat but also looking to see if she could try to identify her partner. She walked over to a booth in the back but stood by it and she was sure that it was going to be a place where her partner would meet her.

message 34: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments A minute passed, then another; someone bumped into her back. "Excuse me, love." A bombshell blonde with a slender cat's tail and tight clothes steadied herself by grabbing Mercedes' shoulders. "May've had one too many, 'eh?" She smiled apologetically.

message 35: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments Mercedes looked at the blonde who bumped into her. "A bit too many, It is no problem. Please just take it easy and be careful." Mercedes said to The Blonde to assure her that she isn't mad and is glad that she can be herself for a few moments until her partner comes.

message 36: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments She slid her hands from Mercedes' shoulders to her biceps, still uneasy on her feet. "No, no. Letme make it up. I'll get you a drink. Maybe a daiquiri or an Australian Kiss or something?"

message 37: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments "Maybe next time." Mercedes helped her sit down fully on a chair. "I need a water for her please." She asked the bar tender still looking around for anyone that could be her partner. Though she never drinks this girl is reminding her what she and her ex boyfriend had.

message 38: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments (I'm really sorry. I had no idea you posted)

"I don't need to sit. I'm perfectly fine standing." Despite her struggling, she fell into a seat. "Why do you keep pushing me?"

message 39: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments "Because you might cause something to happen. Now please sit down." Mercedes even ordered a water for herself and a water for him. She doesn't want her partner see her talk to this drunk girl.

message 40: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "Oh I want to cause something alright... but you're the only woman in this bar giving my any attention."

message 41: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments "Well fine cause something and get in big trouble." She wasn't going to deal with this drunk blond. Things would drive her insane if she doesn't follow the rules.

message 42: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "I've already tried, unless you're invitin' me to get handsy."

message 43: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments "I have to meet someone so I wouldn't appreciate it if you do get handsy." She looked at the time and saw it was already time for her partner to be here.

message 44: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments "I wouldn't appreciate my girlfriend getting handsy with you either," a male voice said from behind her. The drunk woman sat up, suddenly alert. "Well, I tried Alan." She slid back out of the seat. "Just remember the offer is always there," she said with a smile before turning to leave.

message 45: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments "I appreciate the offer but I won't accept it." She said to her hearing the male behind her she was sure that was going to be her partner. She didn't say anything about it not sure of what to say to him.

message 46: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan sat in the seat the other woman left vacant. "Good evening, Ms. Mercedes." He wore a long coat, with his badge and pistol on his belt. He was well built and handsome enough. "And yes, that was a test."

message 47: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments "Good evening," She sat next to him noticing his badge and pistol. "I understand that sir." She sat down listening as he spoke to her seeing he was a handsome man well built it made her feel different being his partner. She sat up fixing her hair she was small but with an athletic build, and petite. It made her seem weak but she wasn't weak and it was going to be easy to see if you got to know her.

message 48: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan crossed his arms and looked her over expectantly. Whatever he decided about her, his face was impassive; "I understand this will be your first time with a field office." He had a habit of stating questions.

message 49: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (its_jt_lv) | 55 comments "Yes, It will be." She answered him even though it will be a problem she will work so hard to not mess up on her first mission. She gave him her full attention and would speak to him and listen to everything he has to say.

message 50: by Applejaxc (new)

Applejaxc | 1003 comments Alan tapped his index and middle fingers on table twice; despite the noise and clutter of the bar, a waitress arrived. "Have you eaten dinner yet?"
