I got an email the other day to say they had been overwhelmed with requests and that I could enter a contest by post something on Instagram for a chance to win one of 20 copies, I will buy it or borrow from the library

I've reserved it at the library - I'm 20th in the queue, but of course they don't have stock in yet.

That’s bad luck Brenda! I haven’t heard back yet, but it doesn’t sound hopeful. I also requested it from St Martin’s but have a 100% decline rate from them so it was really just wishful thinking!

Haha! The only time I read St Martin's books is if they ask me! I've tried requesting but am the same as you!!

Brenda wrote: "I've reserved it at the library - I'm 20th in the queue, but of course they don't have stock in yet."SNAP! (except I'm 23rd in the queue). Given it's so popular pre-publication date, the library will put a dozen copies or so on their Express Shelves, so if I'm there at the right moment I can grab a non-reservable copy for 7 days. Often faster than waiting for a full 3-week loan on a hold.
As an alternative to The Younger Wife, which we all seem to have been declined for, NetGalley is obviously actively seeking requests for Christian White's new release, Wild Place. I'd already been approved, but they sent an email inviting me anyway!

Wow we don't have anything like that Sarah! Our click and collect was supposed to start at the end of September but they're very quiet about it!

Fingers crossed that your click and collect materialises soon!

I think its probably just Pan MacMillan..they're very hot and cold with me. The way they're going they won't have any pre release reviews!

I’d better whisper this very quietly, but I’ve just got an approval for The Younger Wife. Must be quite random as I know Brenda has reviewed a lot more than me. Also as you say Brenda, PanMacmillan can be a bit hit and miss.

Carolyn wrote: "I’d better whisper this very quietly, but I’ve just got an approval for The Younger Wife. "Well done, Carolyn! I think their approval preferences are pretty challenging. According to their NetGalley blurb:
Pan Macmillan Australia loves to work with bloggers in all forms, including Bookstagram and BookTube. We do not accept Goodreads reviewers unless you have a secondary account (such as Bookstagram or are guest blogger on other websites). To work with us, you must be consistent in your posting, as well as established and active for more than six months. You must have a following of 2000 or more on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, a mailing list of 2000 or more, website visitors of over 1000 per month or over 1000 subscribers on YouTube.
What's so great about Bookstagram? As far as I can work out, you can only post covers, not review links. Or is the rationale to have Bookstagram paired with a blog?

I don't have any type of blog or any of the other stats they mention (ssh!!) and have been rejected by them before, so I guess I've just been lucky this time. I'm not sure what's so good about Bookstagram but it's pretty popular so maybe just good for advertising?

Carolyn wrote: "I guess I've just been lucky this time."I'd run with it, Carolyn - perhaps your reviews have caught the attention of one of their publicists and they have a wildcard allocation. I used to wonder the same when I randomly got an auto-approval from Hachette (when they were still using NetGalley), despite only having posted about 25 reviews with NG at that stage... Embrace the randomness!
Joy Ellis's latest, The Night Thief, is available as Read Now, and is a Kindle MOBI file rather than a PDF!. I'm not sure I've read any of hers before, but I've heard they're quite good.

That's smack in the middle of a series Sarah - #8. Probably not a good place to start if you haven't read her before :)

It appears that bookstagram is the place to be these days. They actually post reviews on their posts (limited word count, of course).

Amazon and Facebook are competing for our attention with Goodreads (and Amazon reviews) vs Bookstagram (and Facebook book groups). It wouldn't surprise me if Google adds some attractive platform on Google Books to pull us in their direction. Of course, the more time we spend there, the less time to read books! 📚😊

That's what I thought - the next Miss Underhay mystery by Helena Dixon is on Amazon (published Feb 22) so I'll be keeping an eye out for it on NG too!

I'm hanging out for Murder at St Anne's, book #7 in J.R. Ellis's Yorkshire Murder Mysteries series. It's scheduled for release on 7 December, but hasn't hit NetGalley yet.
