Oh my goodness! I just discovered Digging Up Dirt by Pamela Hart on NG! This is her first in a new series - she writes historical fiction and children's books under Pamela Freeman This one is a new genre for her that I've been hanging out for - and she's very excited about. A cosy mystery series!

Tien (tiensblurb) | 631 comments I've posted this one in the upcoming AA books thread but it's also on NG ~I'm very very happy this morning lol

"The Other Side of Beautiful by Kim Lock
The Other Side of Beautiful by Kim Lock 7/7/21 (contemporary)

I've loved all of Kim's books so I'm very much looking forward to this one!"

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Fans of Derek B. Miller's Sheldon Horowitz might want to request the prequel to Norwegian by Night, How to Find Your Way in the Dark, published 27th July. It follows a pre-teen Sheldon through to meeting his wife. I can vouch for this being another excellent Miller book.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments The story Address Unknown, written in 1938 by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor, first appeared in a magazine, which is where I read it online. But it is being issued as a new publication and is now on NetGalley to wish for. I loved it! It's an extremely satisfying read.

My review is here, if anyone wants to know.

Looks like its a prequel to his Cork O'Connor series.

Oh, me too! Assuming it's the same one set in Dubai, otherwise could be indicating a glitch in the system.

Hahahahahaha!!! You won't be around to publish it Carolyn! lol

message 668: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9836 comments Yes, it's the one set in Dubai (Diving for Pearls).

I hadn't thought of that Brenda, but I definitely won't be publishing any reviews in 2098!

Janelle | 635 comments I signed up to net galley a year or more ago but because I don’t read on a kindle the process of downloading looked way to complicated so I didn’t go any further. Then last Friday I got an email telling me Simon and schuster had preapproved me for Half Life and The Last Night In London!
Then I discovered NetGalley now has an app for all the non kindle readers and its great so far.
I now understand why you’re all so addicted. One weekend and I already have 8 books on my shelf!

Hey Janelle I was preapproved for those two books as well. I just gave half life 5 stars. I am about 20% into Last night in London and I am sitting at 4 stars for that one.
Happy reading.

Janelle, you can have a kindle address at Amazon even if you don't have a kindle device, because the kindle APP works on phones and tablets and laptops and PCs. That means you can read anything you have at Amazon on any of those devices in their app.

You just register each device in your Amazon account (you don't need to buy anything to sign up), and then your books stay there forever, including your NetGalley reads as far as I know. They don't expire, so you can enjoy them again. I don't know how the NetGalley shelf works.

You can message me if you can't find anyone to walk you through it if you want to give it a go. I like to support Booktopia (Aussie bookseller) when buying ebooks or books, but sometimes Amazon has good deals. :)

Janelle, I don't have a Kindle, I just use the Kindle app on my tablet or my phone

Lee at ReadWriteWish (leeatreadwritewish) | 322 comments Yeah, I don't like the Netgalley app as much as the Kindle one. You can't change the font on the Netgalley app and yes, they expire.

message 683: by Janelle (new)

Janelle | 635 comments I’ll have to try the kindle app and compare. Thanks Marianne and Lee :)

If they expire on the NetGalley app, my unread books would disappear! I don't always read them on time.

My understanding is that Netgalley removes books when they are no longer available for request. However if you have already downloaded the book to kindle it remains there until you remove it.

message 686: by Gloria (new)

Gloria (Ms. G's Bookshelf) (gloriaarthur) | 378 comments I’ve noticed that the kindle downloads are always there on my phone/iPad but the Netgalley app downloads show the number of days before they expire/disappear even though you have downloaded them. Much prefer the kindle downloads as the font is clearer and you can use the search function which I like.

message 687: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1543 comments I’ve been caught out recently with a couple of titles that expired from the Netgalley App a week BEFORE publication date. My own fault for not checking the dates earlier, but really frustrating, as I hate selecting “I will not leave feedback on this title”. Unfortunately the Netgalley App / PDF titles are so user-unfriendly that I’ve decided to avoid them in future, which is a shame, as I’ve enjoyed reviewing picture books / cookbooks / Art & Craft books, which all seem to fall into this category. I might do the odd “Read Now” in a single sitting, we’ll see...

I read some of the pdfs on the NG app (rather than kindle) and have had one or two expire, but as long as they hadn't been archived was able to download them again. Not sure if this is always true.
