SOLVED. Contemporary- Curmudgeonly old NY man moves to Nordic country to be near daughter and ends up in an adventure with a young boy.

A curmudgeonly elderly man moves from NYC to Finland or Norway (or something like that) to be near his daughter. He somehow gets caught up in an adventure, sort of on the run, with a young boy. There is a language barrier and he and the young boy are on the run from someone dangerous. There is a scene where they are hiding in a boat that is being trailed along the highway. I read this book a few years ago. It is a contemporary novel I think. The man has a fairly strained relationship with his daughter who is married with a baby.
