I agree with your thoughts about the good parts of the book. Don’t forget about the Alone in the Wild BR. That should be a good read. I have the book now. Just waiting for you to tell me you have the book.
When I checked yesterday it was still on order. I'm first in queue.
Yeah, I'm done! Ok, I really hated that they found Matt alive. I felt like this was so far fetched. After that point though, I like it so much more. The last chapters were crazy and out there but more interesting and believable, assuming that the family ended up together after Matt's ordeal. It was definitely a slow beginning and Yasmin's crazy was too much but the end was somewhat redeeming.

I was reminded of a 6th grade writing class I had. We had a Nancy Drew / Agatha Christie Mysteries unit, in which we learned of the way a lot of mystery and suspense books are plotted and written. The Nancy Drew portion dealt in the art of coincidence, and how far-fetched some events are in a mystery book. (I still have the story we had to write from that class in a closet somewhere. My hero was named Eddie Summers, and the baddie was Prudence Skaglop. Of course.) There was almost nothing believable about the circumstances in this book. The fact that Yasmin had no problems driving that truck, and that they found Matt at all. The fact that the CEO of the fracking company drove a big rig. The fact that Yasmin took her child with her, etc. etc.
I did like Ruby, and I also liked some of the science and the back story of how the couple met and fell in love. Other than that...meh.
Yes and no problems with a Brit driving an American rig, which has to be a bigger deal then just driving the truck in Alaska.I do want to thank you guys for helping me read it! I need to set aside more time for reading and hopefully this was a start.

I wouldn't have gotten through this book without the buddy read. I would have abandoned it even though it was badly needed for a challenge. Thanks!

Yes, I just read The Other People. It was better than this book. I won’t say more so I don’t give any spoilers away. I’ll see you on the Alone in the Wild thread.
I would love to read it but I'm not sure about timing. Go ahead and start Monday either way. I won't be able to get a print copy in time and I need to finish 2 audio books first.
Geri and Laura, Alone in the Wild is the 5th in a series. Does it read as stand alone or should I have read the other 4 first? It sounds like something I'd like but I usually start with a first.

Definitely a series worth reading. Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors. Her writing has definitely improved and matured over the years.

How was Starless Sea?
Don't bother. It was so disappointing. A story in search of a plot and better writing.

That is disappointing about The Starless Sea. Do we want to start right away or wait until Monday? (or another day that works better?)

looks good. Are you enjoying it? Sure, I 'll let you know what I think about American Dirt- I'm not quite 50%. Stacey, what did you think of In the Woods? Matthew and I are buddy reading The Chalk Man if you want to join us.
Unspeakable things is good. It is the kind of book that looms. There are a bunch of things that are vaguely sinister, out of the corner of your eye creepy, and not explained yet. My guess is the end will be interesting.
Sometimes I like creepy! Sounds intriguing. I suspect I'll try and read it this year.
