2015 Year Long Challenge - Serial Killers

You can count sub-series. And you can claim the entire Discworld series later in the year because there are books in the overall series that aren't in a sub-series. The restriction is that you may only count the book points once. So if you read the Ankh-Morpork City Watch series and count 5 points for all 8 books, you wouldn't be able to count the book points again.

I believe also Janice made a special rule for Discworld as it's so big. So if you read all the Watch books, or Death books for example, they will count as a series. But Dawn is right, you can't count Discworld twice if you do that.

I'm doing four of the little Discworld series. The City Watch, Rincewind, Witches, and Moist von Lipwig for my challenge.

I'd thought that I could then not claim the entire Discworld series because I'd claimed parts of it already. But if not, then I'll be able to get another level out of it. :)

I got the third book in the Mistborn series today, The Hero of Ages. The cover says it's a trilogy but goodreads also has a 4th book listed, which takes place 300 years after the trilogy. Do I remember correctly that reading the first three books counts as finishing the series?

I have been wondering about this too Peggy. I think the 4th 'Mistborn' book is a part of a spin off series so I'm thinking it could be considered a completely separate series?

My understanding is that this is the case. It is set in the same world, but is a separate series.

Not an answer for the challenge as this is Janice call.

Having read them all I can tell you that they are a trilogy. The 4th one and the next (forthcoming) take place in the same world but way later in the world timeline. So you could see them as a serie as Pern or Darkcover series which comprise a bunch of book/shorter series taking place on the same planet or two separate series that are related.

This said both the mistborn trilogy and the 4th book have a different tone. The latest is westernish and really fun.

Janice, I would like to join this challenge. I haven't set up a thread--I'm about to do that. I've been meaning to since the beginning of the year, but just somehow never got to it, since trying to list all the series I follow would be a daunting task. I have been reading series books, and I sort of assumed I could count books back to January, but after reading the rules yesterday, I see it isn't so. Too bad, as I would have 400 points now. I guess that will teach me to pay more attention in future. Anyway, if I start today, can I at least count the series I finished last week? (If not, that's ok, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.)

Oh I got a question. What do we do for books in two series?

So. I have Leave It to Psmith. It's number 2 in the Blandings Castle series https://www.goodreads.com/series/6068... and number 4 in the Psmith series https://www.goodreads.com/series/4248...
It features on both lists, but the book page itself it only says Psmith, but it is widely listed as in both series.

Do I and can I count it for both? I've already read book 1 of Blandings and then realised I need to read the 3 Psmiths before I get on to book two.

Can't see it coming up again besides Wodehouse, but he tends to do this it seems.

I don''t say roger dodger. But apparently we Canadians over use the term "awesome", and we say it with enthusiasm. At least that's what my British friends observed in the last couple of days.

I don't think I've ever used 'roger dodger' though, not sure I've even heard anyone say it. I've used just 'roger' and heard people use 'roger wilco' though.

I grew up in the US calling them thongs and flip-flops--the term was interchangeable. It wasn't until the 90s that thong took on additional meaning. (I think)

My hubby has a funny story about thongs:)
Before we were married, he was in the military when he was deployed his mom sent him a care package. At that time, it had to be written on the package what was in it and she had sent him flip-flops but wrote thongs. He got so much crap from his army buddies, because we in the U.S. call some women's underwear, thongs. Hahahahaha. I still laugh at this story :)

I agree with Stephanie and Lara. Flip-flops and thongs were pretty interchangeable for a long time. Now though, thongs have basically gone over to the underwear definition and flip-flops are solely foot wear.

I know "Roger Dodger", but I have never heard anyone say it in a conversation. The response is "in the affirmative" vein. "Roger" or "Ten-four" and then, "Over" would be an acknowledgment during a radio or walkie-talkie conversation to indicate that you heard the last statement and you are done talking.

IF I ever were to use Roger Dodger it would be if I were teasing my grandson. :0). I don't know the history of the term though.

I've never said or heard anyone say "roger dodger," but I like the way it sounds... so I may just have to start using it! At the very least with my nieces and nephews or when I'm feeling silly.
I say "alrighty" a lot, or "gotcha." I say "okie dokie" when I'm being silly.

But are books that are read during a level, that are not part of series still get 5 points?

For example in Feb/March I read The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and in April I read The Longest Ride. When I calculate my points do I count 5 points for each of those?

All good on misunderstanding. It happens, and everyone is usually happy to help out. So feel free to ask questions or try things out, as people are always around to help and give feedback.
