SOLVED. Book about NYC leaving the Union as new "black" State [s]

Perhaps 20 years ago I read a book about a conspiracy to take over New York city by black people. The info was communicated via video games and I (fuzzily recall) special glasses.

While implausible, the concept showed a lot of imagination. Military and business had been penetrated and there was an armed rebellion.

Story revolves around an interracial family and how they deal withe the threat/invitation to stay. There is a light romance that includes the daughter and a another teen male.

Huubby is white and is asked to stay because he has critical technical skills.
