THIS DISCUSSION CONTAINS END OF BOOK SPOILERS!!!

What'd you think of the book? Will you be continuing the series? What did you rate it?

Elena Robertson Well I'm afraid my post is not a positive one. I only managed half of this book before I had to admit defeat as it was making me not want to read. I found the plot slow and the romance tedious and immature and I felt the same argument was forever being discussed. There were parts at the start I thought this may have developed into something more interesting but I was taking a gamble anyway as I am not a lover of books set in war time. Unfortunately I have therefore dnf'ed this book. :(

Stephanie Scott (aslanforlife) | 1 comments Loved the first half, Tatiana was awfully annoying but the look into Russian life in World War II was something I hadn't read before so I really enjoyed that. The whole bit in Lazarevo was just weird. It was like they valued their happiness solely on their sex life an nothing else mattered. The last part in Leningrad though, was heart wrenching. I'll probably continue on with the story because maybe now that they are separated, the story can flesh out a bit more without Tatiana being a brat :)

Katie Way. Too. Long. Overall this was a 3 star book for me... it was fine. There were many parts I really didn't like, and then other parts I really did like. I will certainly continue on with the trilogy, but will probably take a several month break before I get to the next book. I agree with what is said above re: the sexy time in Lazarevo, and would have enjoyed other descriptions regarding their relationship rather than just the 15 times per day they had sex.

Sofia (diguiii) | 3 comments I'm disappointed! I went into this book with such high expectations and after I finished it I'm only giving it 3 stars (and only because I enjoyed the historical description). The biggest element of this book, the romance between Tatiana and Alexander, I found it very annoying during 90% of the time. And did not care for any of the characters of the book.

I felt very similarly to everyone above! I ended up giving the book 2.5 stars and I will not be continuing the series. I enjoyed the writing: it was fast-paced and easy for me to read. I enjoy the historical elements, like when they were starving during the siege. BUT OMG THE ROMANCE AND THE CHARACTERS JUST UGGGGH. I cannot get over that he was dating Dasha for over half the book. That was just insanely selfish and even though Dasha isn't very nice she is still a HUMAN BEING who deserves to be treated like one. Just the entire first half I was so frustrated with Tatiana and Alexander both. Then the next like 150 pages was all sex which just got boring for me after a while. The final pages I felt like Alexander just acted very jealous and violent and I really have no interest in them as a couple. I'm glad I read the book since it was my first time reading a book in this genre and I wanted to know what everyone was talking about, but it was definitely not for me!
