Unfortunately, Rabbit Proof Fence does not fit the task."

Okay -- thanks for reviewing!

Miriam | 7 comments So, Emily St. John Mandel works? She lives in NY with her husband, but I don't think she's changed her citizenship.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Miriam wrote: "So, Emily St. John Mandel works? She lives in NY with her husband, but I don't think she's changed her citizenship."

Yes, she is approved for this task. A change of citizenship is not one of the requisites for this one.

Deedee | 2286 comments Orczy Emmuska Baroness
Baroness Emmuska Orczy was born in Tarnaörs, Hungary. ... Orczy moved with her parents from Budapest to Brussels and then to London, learning to speak English at the age of fifteen. ... she later married the son of an English clergyman. I don't see any indication that she ever returned to Hungary.

I'm reading Lady Molly of Scotland Yard for 20.5 and am looking at 20.8 for combo points; would she fit? Thanks!

Phoebe (phoebegilmore) | 158 comments Hi,
Mike Horn is South African born, but left at the age of about 24 to go on adventures and "settles" in Switzerland (like, in between expeditions).
See: goodreads profile & http://www.mikehorn.com/about-mike/

Does he, and his book "Conquering the Impossible: My 12,000-Mile Journey Around the Arctic Circle, count for this task then?

And does he count as "non-western" or not?

message 58: by Jama (new)

Jama | 242 comments Hi Phoebe, it looks like Mike Horn works. I don't know if he counts as non-western, though.

message 59: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 2286 comments Rudyard Kipling, born in India where he spent his childhood; adult life mainly in England, with a several year stop in the United States. Does he count for this task? Thanks!

message 60: by Jama (new)

Jama | 242 comments Deedee, I don't think Kipling works, as we was a colonial British citizen while in India.

Yeah, I figured, I'm just looking for a place to fit The Jungle Books. I'll put it in 10.1.

It works today for 20.10, from The Wizard of Oz. No need to post over there - I'll put it in the list for you.

Thanks Elizabeth (Alaska)!

Tobey | 241 comments Would Jack Whyte work? Born in UK, living in Canada since 1967.

Thanks.

message 65: by Claire (new)

Claire Jefferies (clairesjefferies) | 157 comments Would Janina Matthewson work for this? She was born in New Zealand but now lives in London. Thanks!

message 66: by Jama (new)

Jama | 242 comments Jack Whyte and Janina Matthewson both work. Sorry about the delay Tobey!

Tobey | 241 comments No worries Jama, thanks!

message 69: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5290 comments I'd like to check on Priya Parmar. Her blurb says she divides her time between Hawaii and London. This article and interview made it sound to me like she was born and raised in the US (Massachusetts) and now lived in London. It doesn't say anything about Hawaii. Elizabeth would like you to decide whether she qualifies. The book will still work, so no worries if she doesn't fit this one.

message 70: by Lagullande (new)

Lagullande | 1131 comments Hi, there. Does Alan Cumming work for this?

Alan was born in Scotland in 1965 where he grew up. He now lives in New York. On 7 November 2008, he became a dual-national and was sworn in as a citizen of the United States of America.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2598 comments okay checking on M.L. Stedman. She was born in Australia and now lives in London based off her website.

message 72: by Jama (new)

Jama | 242 comments Again, sorry for the delay. Alan Cummings works for the task.

There is little info about Priya Parmar, but since she is dividing time between Hawaii and London, I am going to say no.

Also little info on M.L.Stedman, but since she is living in London now, and think she works.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2598 comments okay, thanks Janna. It sounded like Stedman would fit but I wanted to double check.

message 74: by Lagullande (new)

Lagullande | 1131 comments Thanks for the ok for Alan Cumming, Jama - his book is my first 5 star read of this year.

message 75: by Claire (new)

Claire Jefferies (clairesjefferies) | 157 comments Hi Jama, would Marguerite Duras qualify for this? She was born in Saigon, but has lived most of her life in France. Here's some more info on Wikipedia if this helps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margueri...

Thanks!

message 76: by Jama (new)

Jama | 242 comments Claire, I don't think she works, as her parents were French and living as French colonists in Vietnam. I am pretty sure she would have a French citizenship, even though she was born in Vietnam.

message 77: by Claire (new)

Claire Jefferies (clairesjefferies) | 157 comments Thanks Jama! It was for a different task anyway, so was trying for combo points. It still works for the challenge!

message 78: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5290 comments Could you check Derek B. Miller for me, please? The book jacket which I no longer have said he was born in Boston but now lives in Norway. The Goodreads description isn't as clear about that, so it's unclear whether he fits.

Derek Miller works. I found two sources confirming that he lives in Norway with his family.

Tobey | 241 comments Would Paula Hawkins work? Sorry I cannot do links on my GR mobile. She was born in Zimbabwe, currently lives in London.

Thanks,
Tobey

message 81: by Jama (new)

Jama | 242 comments Tobey, I am not sure about Paula Hawkins. I think at one point Doris Lessing was mentionned as not working, since she grew up in Rhodesia as a colonial Brit. I can't find enough info on Paula Hawkins to tell what her citizenship would have been growing up. I think to be consistent we should go with no, unless you can find more info to suggest otherwise.

Lagullande | 1131 comments Jama wrote: "Tobey, I am not sure about Paula Hawkins. "

Jama/Tobey, Paula Hawkins was accepted for 20.8 in my completed task post 506.

Phew! I thought I was about to lose some points there ;-)

Tobey | 241 comments Coming in at the last minute...does Khaled Hosseini work? His bio says he was born in Afghanistan and moved to the U.S in 1980. Sorry, cannot link from mobile app.

Thanks,
Tobey
