PI's, thinkin', thinkin' about future monthly lineups and was wonderin' which direction we should take the PI's. We seem to be enjoying visiting w/old friends via Poirot/Marple so do you think maybe doing the HP or Marple canon/series month by month would be a good move? Or mix it up with a new read then a vintage, new, vintage or other idea(s)? How about a vote on this? If we went w/revisiting old material, we don't have to stay there forever. Just a several month run or until something worthwhile surfaces. If we go w/new material, I believe there are a few newer titles that might work, though we have been fooled before. Opines, ideas, feel free to post yours.

I'm leaning towards the HP book/movies canon/series. I believe we tried it before but I don't recall giving it a fair shot. Kindle, e-copies would be easy enough to obtain and if we got busy one month, we could participate via the movie. When time allowed in our schedules, we could participate by reading and watching film or just reading the novel thus making it doable to join in.

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'd be perfectly okay with 2020 being the year of Agatha, lol!

I'm happy with an Agatha year as well! Lots to discuss there.

Thanks for the quick response, Nicole and Pghfan! That makes three so far. We'll see what NicoleG has to say and maybe PI LM will join us. Will keep us posted on outcome.

If anyone still has the movie and book lineup, please post. I know we posted one or the other some time ago but not sure if it was at the old place or here.

We could rotate hosting and have the host pick the book/movie/TV.

I have several of the Poirots and Marples but not all. Library might have what I don't.

That's fine, NicoleG. Either book or movie or both would be welcomed in the discussions.

PI's, and if we get bored, we can break things up with a great title we've discovered then return to the list in following month. Something like that.

Bingo, Pghfan. Like minds and all that for I was thinking same. Looks like we've got something goin' here, PI's. :-)

PI's, what say you? start the list from beginning or host gets to pick the title? I'm good w/either w/a slight nod towards host gets to pick. I'll go along with either.

message 14: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'm okay with either!

I don't have any streaming service, but I have pretty much all of the DVSs of Christie stuff.

Since I'm hosting right now, I'll let someone else start us out.

PI's, did we settle on Poirots or Poirots and Marples? I'm good with either with a slight nod to HP's to start with. Weigh in w/your preference.

Feb. will show Agatha Christie is in the house...um, Parlor! Anyone want to kick off the new program by hosting a fave?

NicoleG: I got those on the Kindle a while ago--they were out of copyright and free. I understand that a whole not more books (not just Christie) are now out of copyright. I'll have to investigate more on this.

I can't remember - is the copyright an age of book thing, or a prior to a certain year thing?

message 24: by Mark Pghfan (new)

Mark Pghfan | 1939 comments Mod
There is roughly 75 years or so for a copyright, I think. After that, it can be renewed in some circumstances but otherwise it will be in the public domain for people to use without charge. The release of books doesn't seem to happen each year, though.

I can see why, Pghfan, for A Murder/Announced is one of Christie's greatest hits.

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments Good morning all! I will start the discussion for A Murder is Announced Saturday, February 8 (hopefully!). Plan on dividing it into 3 sections with a separate discussion post for the movies - just as Mark did with January! Happy reading, PIs!

No problem. You guys can do separate threads for book/movies but I'll be posting both book/movie thoughts under book thread as noted in opening thread. Long yada why; I won't bore you with the deets. As we've all read/watched the book, it won't spoil anything. Thanks, PI's. Yippee! :-)

Having read the books and watched the adaptations so much, it is sometimes hard to separate the differences between them!

I get it, Pghfan, but sometimes they overlap. One of my reasons is rather than having to back and forth 'tween two threads, it can be said on the one. Some things in my life are changing and I'm having to make adjustments as I go.
