Well, i have a bunch of books for this year that i want to read, that won't fir this category, but i will give this level a try - know i might not make it this year though. But have finished my first anyway. D. E. Stevenson's 'The Baker's Daughter', which is written by a Scot and the story takes place in Scotland. I like just about anything she wrote, and this is my 4th or 5th time to read it.

I am only at book 2 - not doing so well! Just finished rereading The Tall Stranger by D. E. Stevenson, for the twentieth or so time - a read aloud with my daughter. She thinks this makes 12 to 15 times for her : ). Am enjoying Bertie Plays the Blues too.
I forgot i just read the new hamish book too so i'm at three now, 'Death of a Liar'. I think is the new one ? I love them all.
Okay, finished my 4th, though this was a quick read. Still highly recommended. I found Katie Morag picture books on our trip to the Uk in 2007. Just recently bought two large storybooks of her stories and read the second one. 'The Second Katie Morag Storybook' - by Mairi Hedderwick. If you have always daydreamed about living on a Hebridean Island, these are meant for you! : )Also found there were dvds of the stories. The little girl they found to be Katie, is perfect and perfectly adorable. The scenery on the island is gorgeous. And the stories are entertaining and very sweet. There is a lilt to the dvd, as well as the books, that I really love.
And now my 5th - the first Big Katie Morag Storybook by Mairi Hedderwick. Lots of fun. I am going to pursue, over time, finding all the Katie Morag books. Love them, and plan to add the Isle of Coll, which is the original of Hedderwick's fictional Isle of Struay, to our Scotland itinerary for next year.
White Nights and all those following it in the Shetland series. I also want to read all Peter may's book set in the Hebrides, beginning with

Love Peter May! Have never read Ann Cleeves yet. Someday. I love the TV series Shetland made from her books though!
Just finished sixth book - Bertie Plays the Blues by mccall smith. So much fun. I was kind of bored with the first book in the series and waited years to get back to it. But i am loving it now. This one was a riot. Bertie puts himself on ebay, hoping to be adopted, so that he can escape his overbearing mother. And another character tries internet dating and ends up at an elvis impersonators' convention. So inventive, quirky, and fun.

Book 7 - i have at long long last, finished The Wild Places, by Robert Macfarlane. Don't know how many years i've been savoring it, but finished this morning. Looked up almost every place mentioned, on pinterest, which doubled or quadrupled reading time but was worth it. Lots of scotland i wish i had the ability to explore, i was able to experience through his book. Loved it. Believe he covered wild places in scotland, england, wales and ireland. I've already bought more of his books so that i can continue 'journeying' with him.
Julie: I loved Wild Places when I read it and was almost inspired to recreate some of MacFarlane's walks except he's much tougher than me!!
If you haven't already read it, I can also highly recommend The Old Ways, another of his books which I think is fascinating.

I thought i had bought the old ways, but it was the one about the mountains. So maybe i have not gotten the old ways yet. Probably figured i would do one at a time since i take so long with them! And have wildwood by roger...his friend - deakin? I think.
Book 8, Sunshine on Scotland Street by mccall smith. One more in the series and i will be caught up. And there is to be a new one out this year in the isabel dalhousie series too. Looking forward to that. Now to see how long i have to wait for the next scotland street book from the library.
Book 9 - the latest scotland street book - Bertie's guide to life and mothers - i think. Now i have to wait for him to write another. Loved this one . Love bertie. After all these years, he was finally allowed to have his 7th birthday. Mccall smith admits that Bertie has been 6 for years and years : )
I thought I added book ten recently. A Small Death in the Great Glen. But I guess I didn't. Or maybe didn't click on 'post'! I wasn't too crazy about that one. Now I've finished Christine Fraser's first of three autobiographical novels. I wish there were more than the three I've read, but on now to try one of her fiction books. This chronicles her childhood in the Glasgow slums and her serious childhood illness. Sounds depressing but absolutely is not. Highly recommend. So that was book 11 and I'm still way behind, and am still rereading the end of croggon's Pellinor book series, which won't count, since she is Australian! : )
Book 12 is another I thought I had already listed, but it's not here. It was Josephine Tey's, 'The Man in the Queue'. She just does not read like an author from a long time ago. She reads like today. And I like her inspector. Would like to reread singing sands, but know I ought to read her other books first - the ones I've not read yet.

I'm working on the latest Isabel Dalhousie, McCall smith's Emma, and m. C. Beaton's newest, but I don't think I'm going to make it this time! (To the back of beyond). : )

I'm a little worried too. I have to read 6 more but we are moving to another state by the end of the year and I don't know how much reading I'll get done!

yes, we are retiring Nov. 30th and going to Tennessee to live. Milder winters, lower taxes and beautiful Smoky Mountains! My mom's family was from there, although no one is still alive.
That sounds pretty wonderful.we can't leave the cold winters because we have 9 grandchildren nearby - and one more on the way : )

We have two grands and they are 4 1/2 hrs away now. Will be 7 hrs when we move. Not too much more.
We have 5 who are 15 min.s away, and 4 who are 40 min.s away, so would be hard to give that up : ) we usually see the closest ones once a week or more. Have a birthday party tomorrow for the 6 year old : )
Book 13 - finished - Beaton's 'Dishing the Dirt'. They are all formulaic, but she makes me read them and I have trouble putting them down, so, she's got something good going!

Book 14 - 'the novel habits of happiness' - McCall smith's newest Isabel Dalhousie book. This series is very everyday-ish, but I just enjoy walking with Isabel through her life. Will soon finish book 15, 'emma' by McCall smith.
book 15 done- i'm way behind! read mccall smith's 'emma'. not as crazy about it as everything else he's written. there were two high spots, where i will probably write down a paragraph or two. but on the whole, not as happy with it and of course it is one i actually paid the new hardcover price for. i almost never buy new books. will try selling at half price books.
Book 16 done - I definitely didn't make the challenge this year! Reread d. E. Steve son's Listening Valley. Think I'll need to try a lower numbered challenge if we do this again!
