What is a book show? TV, radio, was the whole book read aloud? How many years ago? Does the book take place in the U.S. or somewhere else?
It was a PBS show where they read a chapter ...trying to get kids to read more ....I would say back in the mid to late 70s. It was set in the colony's. The people Maryann was indentured to she called the bullinghams but their real name was Woolinghams.when the 2 finished their service it was beginning winter and they made a deal to stay on till spring..they started a homestead and the Indians helped them the first winter since Maryann was nice to one of the braves in the trading post.
That show may be "Cover To Cover". It aired on PBS from the 60's through the 90's. I looked forward to summers when I could watch the show and then go to the library to read the book they would talk about. One of my favorites - "Lizard Music" was introduced to me by that show. While I'm not a fan of Wikipedia, they list a number of books profiled on the show, and maybe there may be more resources out there with book lists.

ETA: The show may have gone by more than one name, depending on the timeframe. See list below, but I'm pretty sure this "group" of shows it the one you saw.
