Pamela Earp | 2 comments This book was read on a book show many years ago....Maryann and another indentured servant are saving everything they can to build their life together at the end of their service. One scene he gets her a overdress for Christmas and she gets upset and worried he is foolish while she gets him an axe head. She asks for the extra eggs and keeps them warm to hatch so she will have her own chickens.
Thank you for any help in this book this is for someone else and they hate reading and this book meant so much to them and they would like to reread it ...Too much to ask for a Christmas miracle? I would love to give them a copy for Christmas.

What is a book show? TV, radio, was the whole book read aloud? How many years ago? Does the book take place in the U.S. or somewhere else?

Pamela Earp | 2 comments It was a PBS show where they read a chapter ...trying to get kids to read more ....I would say back in the mid to late 70s. It was set in the colony's. The people Maryann was indentured to she called the bullinghams but their real name was Woolinghams.when the 2 finished their service it was beginning winter and they made a deal to stay on till spring..they started a homestead and the Indians helped them the first winter since Maryann was nice to one of the braves in the trading post.

Railyn (funky-rat) | 243 comments That show may be "Cover To Cover". It aired on PBS from the 60's through the 90's. I looked forward to summers when I could watch the show and then go to the library to read the book they would talk about. One of my favorites - "Lizard Music" was introduced to me by that show.

While I'm not a fan of Wikipedia, they list a number of books profiled on the show, and maybe there may be more resources out there with book lists.

ETA: The show may have gone by more than one name, depending on the timeframe. See list below, but I'm pretty sure this "group" of shows it the one you saw.
