James Diviney | 2 comments I am looking for a professional beta reader, proofreader for my first novel, a 96,300 word adult science fiction.
The story has a contemporary military setting and follows the protagonist as he is recalled to active duty because he is the only known person who can use a top secret weapon which is needed to destroy an asteroid that is threatening the earth. But he will find himself battling not just the asteroid but a corrupt political system, which has its own agenda, and that reaches to the militaries and governments highest levels. His mission will change him in ways no one could have predicted as he finds himself on the road to becoming the world's first transcendent.
My goal is to make this into a book an agent would want to represent. So readability, pacing, plot holes, characters and glaring errors are my major concerns. So if this sounds like a project you would like to take on please contact me.

Hi James,

I'm NOT a professional, in that I don't charge to Beta-read.
But I have considerable experience as a Chartered Engineer, a life-long passion for 'hard' sci-fi, a history of involvement in Australian party-politics at State Executive level, extensive and detailed amateur understanding of planetary astronomy and a few acknowledgements in Indie-published books for my constructive critiques as a beta-reader. My aim is to be an aide to an author who is ruthless to make the book as good as it can be.

I might be worth the ZERO amount of money it would cost to push your MS my way.

I prefer to work in Word, making marginal notes on the fly with larger-scale consolidated comments at intervals through the book.

I do NOT alter your text. That's your job, that's your privilege.

I'm just starting another beta-read now as well as polishing my own sci-fi effort, so I expect to be able to start on yours in about a week and have it dusted in perhaps a fortnight.

Hayley at Midwitch (midwitchediting) | 58 comments I am Hayley, a qualified copy-editor, proof-editor and proofreader. I am an intermediate member of Sfep (Society for editors and proofreaders) which is proof of my credentials and experience, as you must pass through a verification process to achieve this.
Midwitch Editing is my company. https://www.midwitch-editing.com/
I am a proof-editor specialising only in science fiction, fantasy and horror. I work mainly with self-publishing authors, therefore my rates are extremely reasonable compared to many editors. I happily work with US, UK and AU English, and English as a second language.
I offer a free consultation of the first 5000 words of your manuscript. I will proof-edit the first 2000 words, or thereabouts, and critique the remainder by return.
You can contact me here or visit my website and email me. Simply drop me the first 5000 words in Word Doc and I will return your edited work with a quotation.

Hi, James! I don't know if you've already found someone or not, but I am a professional beta reader. I have six years of experience as a sci-fi writer and several years of experience beta reading.
I will give you in depth chapter by chapter feedback on character, plot, world-bulding, etc.
For your 96k work, I would charge about $180.
You can learn more about my services on my fiverr account:
