Alyson Larimer Holes is a great book that many people read when they are younger. It is a book about a boy named Stanley who is sent off to Camp Green Lake because he was arrested for stealing shoes. The main themes in the book are fate and destiny. Stanley and his father have always had bad luck and when he finds the sneakers he thinks its fate, although it does not prove that way when he is arrested. It is fate that later brings Stanley and Zero to the mountain at the Lake where they find the treasure that they had been looking for all these years. Another theme through out the book is family. Stanley has a loving family that would do anything for them and they are happy to have him back. Zero also does not have a family at all. Another major theme would be friendship. Stanley helps Zero to read and write since he finds out he can not. Once he starts teaching him he finds out that he really is a smart kid. The book is great for children because it shows the differences between economic statuses and how one can help the other.
