Oscar Varela The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
This book take place in France and the main Characters are Hugo, Papa Georges, and Isabelle. The majority of the story takes place at a train station where both Hugo and Papa Georges work. Hugo is his uncle’s apprentice and he’s in charge of keeping the train stations clocks in working order. However one day Hugo’s uncle goes missing and in fear of being sent to an orphanage he does not tell anybody instead he goes around doing all his uncle’s work to make sure nobody notices anything strange. With no money Hugo is forced to steal and on one day he was got caught steeling a toy mouse from Papa Georges toyshop. Papa Georges confiscated Hugo’s belongings, among them is a notebook with a strange drawing. It turns out that the notebook was very special to Hugo and he needs in order to finish his invention.
• My overall impression was that this was a very good book and a very easy read.
• The book had a ton of illustrations in fact the story could almost be told just by looking at the pictures, and each picture has an enormous amount of detail. I can still go back and see little things I missed before. I strongly recommend reading the book to children, I read it to my nephews and they loved it.
