Duplicate Author

D A Carson should be combined with D.A. Carson. I am sure combining these profiles will also highlight a number of duplicate books.

It would sure be helpful if an algorithm could automatically identify likely duplicates such as this or when an author has a middle initial or name.

I would love to be able to combine such duplicates myself...

I've merged the one without periods after the initials into the correct one. I'd imagine an algorithm like that would return too many wrongly combined authors (like J. Smith or some other very common names). If you'd like to become a librarian you can fill out the application and take the quiz; there is a link if you search the Goodreads Help site.

The book combining feature has been disabled while they do regular site maintenance. It should be back up sometime tomorrow.
