Feliks What is the significance behind the choice of 'six pomegranate pips' which bind Persephone to Hades for six months of every year?

Why specifically, pomegranate? If she had eaten something bland, and tasteless, what might the punishment have been the punishment?

Were pomegranates chosen to suggest that Persephone finally got lax in her self-discipline and decided to treat herself to something pleasurable during her stay? Is that really the infraction, indulgence?

After all, if she was merely hungry there could have been many choices of items to merely sate that urge. Do pomegranates represent a material pleasure she should have been strong enough to resist?

Your opinion please.
