2020 GoodReads Reading Challenge
Last year I set my goal at 75 but only read 72 so this year I set my goal at 70. I used to be able to read over 100 books a year but my migraines have gotten worse.
Jane wrote: "Mine is 250 new-to-me books. Rereads aren't counting, this time."LOL. I was thinking of doing some re-reads for 2020 as I always do new-to-me.
This is my first challenge and I’m so excited!! I set my goal fo 5O because I have no idea what to expect! I hope I can “double” it as I have lots of goodies on my reading list
I read 354 books in 2019 and would like to decrease reading and pursue other interests. But it's so hard to do! So many books to read!So 200 would be good for me, IMO.
wow, everyone's got such high numbers. that's so awesome.i put my challenge at only 15 books for the year because i haven't read much in the last 5 years and i want to get back into it, but i don't want to be discouraged if i can't do more than one a month.
i've learned though, that if i get a book from the library, the deadline to return it is enough of a motivator for me to keep going. the books i own just end up getting their spot on the shelf "until i have time". which is apparently never.
anyway, just wanted to say that i'm super impressed at everyone's goals. way to go!
I set my goal at 250, and the meter says I'm a book behind already 😄 I've read over 300 last year; we'll see how 2020 goes!
2019 was my first year to participate in the Goodreads challenge. My goal was 180 books, I completed 181 books. My 2020 goal is 200 books.

LOL — I’m actually a book ahead, which is rare for January. I’m usually a couple books behind this early in the challenge.
Wishing everyone luck with their goals!

I didn't make my goal last year and getting behind stole some of my joy, so I made my goal 24 books for 2020. I want to enjoy every word I read and not feel rushed.
Those of us who have set high goals are probably like me & without other responsibilities. Plenty of time to read.

Linda wrote: "Normally my goal is 110 and I go over it so I decided to try a goal of 120 this year."Linda, congrats on challenging yourself!

Thanks! I try not to make it too much of a challenge so there isn't too much pressure.
In 2019 I set my goal at 100 books and completed 96. For 2020, I am reducing my goal to 80. I retired from my full-time job at the end of December and I have all these other activities and/or part-time job I would like to do for the year so I wasn't sure how much time I would actually have to dedicate to reading.
I set mine at 50 again. I barely made it last year. Prior to last year I read a lot more than that, but seemed to have more trouble finding books that held my interest last year. Hope this year is better.
I felt insulted because I was reading 200 books with a full-time and part-time jobs. I'll leave it at that and will choose not to participate too much. (I wasn't bragging. I thought I was sharing.)

Why do you feel insulted? Did I miss something, because I didn’t see anything derogatory said about you, or your personal goal. I’m impressed with anyone who can read 200 books while working full time.
Everyone reads at a different pace and we all have stuff going on in our personal lives that may affect what or how much we read. The point is to read, and encourage each other in our personal reading journeys.

I read 116 last year but as usual I am taking all pressure off myself by starting out with 25 as my goal. For some reason this works for me.

You're welcome, but it's more a different way of looking at life - you gotta do what you've taken on - spouse, children, job.... I took care of my mother solo the last 5.5 years of her life, after my job died.
Last year was the first one I didn't finish. I've downsized my goal this year, as I think it's going to be like last year.
My goal is 50. It's my goal every year. I used to be able to do that no problem years ago, but now I just can't seem to find the time.
This past year I did not make my goal. I should probably downside it again but did not. So I am behind already in my reading.
I set my GR goal at 77 books (1 more than I read in 2019). I've read 11 so far and very close to finishing the 12th. I'm feeling good about it so far.
I've read 19 books so far so I will soon be increasing my goal from 25 to 50. Babysteps so I don't stress myself out.
Starting March off with 17/85 completed, putting me at three ahead and 20 percent done. I have also read 12/50 for the Popsugar Ultimate challenge, my goal there being at least half (25).
I'm at 27/120 - 23% and 7 books ahead. Having 2 books going at a time really helps get the goal done even if one of the books takes 2 weeks to read.
I'm at 57/250, 13 ahead of schedule, but summer is coming, & I have family to see then. Also planning to teach a cousin-once-removed to knit & needlepoint then - her idea, not me foisting it on her. Also planning to read Shelby Foote's 3 volume Civil War & the single volume script for Ken Burns' Civil War. Both my father's grandfathers were veterans - one 19th Infantry, US Army, the other NY State National Guard. Annual family reunion in August, this time at Gettysburg.
Way to go, everybody! I've read nine books so far in 2020 which puts me five ahead of schedule. I know it's going to be a crazy busy year, so I set my goal at 24.
As I watched the news this morning again discussing the Coronavirus, the mentioned some movies are pushing back their releases. So, I'm wondering if people will stay home and read more books.
What do you think?
Stay safe and stay well!
I had to increase from 25 to 50 because I have been binge reading and I'm at 26/50. Binge reading translation: very bad cold & then a very bad back so I spent a lot of time in bed but all is well now.
Karen, I'm glad you feel better now. Karen M wrote: "I had to increase from 25 to 50 because I have been binge reading and I'm at 26/50. Binge reading translation: very bad cold & then a very bad back so I spent a lot of time in bed but all is well now."
I hope everyone is well as we start off another month. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have definitely done a bit more reading the last couple weeks. Current progress for my challenge is 28/85 (33%) and seven books ahead.

Thanks Jackie!
I am 41/50 and considering increasing goal again!

As with last year, I have started with a goal of 85 books. I just made my goal in 2019, though in previous years I ended up increasing my goal in the last quarter.
