Isabell (purzel) | 246 comments I just finished a book that I was sure would fit for Book 2, Option 3, but now I'm not so certain anymore. The book in question is Visitors by Orson Scott Card. The real question here being whether the book has to be set 100% not on earth of if it would be allowed to have a small part of the book there?

For the main part it takes place on a foreign planed called Garden. The inhabitants of this plants are descendants of people from earth. There is a lot of time-travelling going on in this book; the protagonists are trying to prevent their world from being destroyed. They assume The Destroyers from coming from earth, so one of the protagonists travels to earth. He doesn't arrive until around 60-70% into the book and even then he doesn't stay there long. The book is also split into different perspectives, so I'd guess the part on earth doesn't take up more than 10-15% of the book, 20% at the most.

Would this book still fit?

This series sounds like a nightmare to try and discribe to someone else :-p I'll accept it as the primary setting appears to be the planet Garden with little to no mention of Earth in any of the discriptions/articles I read about the series.

Can I add my own book to the Food Related Non-Fiction list for the challenge or do I need to ask librarian to do it?

SamZ (samwisezbrown) How about this for winter landscape? It's a pretty dated cover, but they are riding through what looks like snowy hills... Mrs. Drew Plays Her Hand by Carla Kelly

To be honest I'm not sure exactly how it works to add a book to a list- if you or a librarian are able to add it then you should be good to go as all that is important to the task is that it is on there somewhere :-)

This works for Book Two Option 3 :-)

Actually, the rules of the challenge say that a book has to be on the list when you choose it - you cannot add a book to a list (or ask someone else to add it) so that you can use it for the challenge.

"3. For tasks that require reading a book from a Goodreads listopia list or shelf, the book must appear on the list or shelf when you access it and the player may not add books to the list to be used for that task."

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments I'm hoping you will agree that this is a winter scene on the cover Winterkill (Joe Pickett, #3) by C.J. Box I see snow covered mountains in the background and snow with fence posts amid barbed wire in the foreground, bu rather than assume and post and be wrong, I thought I'd check

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments I didn't get an answer to message # 61 so I'll ask again. Does Winterkill (Joe Pickett, #3) by C.J. Box work as a winter scene?( Book2 option 1)
Thanks,
Andy

Gea (gea89) Does this cover work for option 1? I know it's in the background, but if you enlarge cover it you can see snow on the tree.

message 73: by BellaGBear (new)

BellaGBear | 261 comments Hey,

does general SRC requirements means that I can read a comic book as a gift? Please :D

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by comic book- for my tasks I always include:

"Books with the genre childrens, kids, manga, comics, or graphic novel on their main page are welcome as long as they meet all other SRC rules."

so if it has comics as a main page genre that's ok as long as it follows the general rules:

"Graphic novels, manga or collected comic book issues must be at least 100 pages.
Collections of syndicated, periodical or internet comic strips, single or short-format panels, or cartoons must be at least 200 pages to be used for SRC tasks."

I hope this answers your question :-)

Hi, will this work for option 3? It says the setting is the United Kingdom but he isn't on earth for the whole book. Most of the time he's in a spaceship or on other planets....although they aren't real planets so I'm not sure! Haha!
