Hey all! Just starting this thread for our discussions on The Name of the Wind. We can discuss anything related to the story here.

J. (jdrew) | 2 comments I am currently reading this so it caught my eye. So far I think it is well done and a different sort of fantasy. More after I finish.

Awesome, and welcome to the group! :)

I look forward to discussing this one, and book 2 (if it's chosen for February).

We've wrapped up our reading for The Name of the Wind! I will go ahead and mark this as "Read" by the group, and we will move on to book 2: The Wise Man's Fear, as voted for by the group.

What are your overall thoughts on The Name of the Wind?

message 6: by J. (new)

J. (jdrew) | 2 comments I liked the book and found it a refreshing sort of fantasy. The main character telling his own story certainly seemed unique and kept me interested. I have not started book 2 and might not for a while. It's not evident whether book 3 is out yet or not.

Yeah! When I first started reading it, I found it slow in its progression, but despite that, I remained interested all the way to the end.

I've read reviews where many people seem to dislike Kvothe and find him arrogant, though I can't say I felt that way about him.

I also like the idea of reading this book but not actually trusting everything Kvothe says. When reading from that perspective, it makes things interesting.

I'm actually almost finished book 2, which I won't say anything about here (as it is our next book in this group).

And lastly, regarding a book 3 release date, it looks like we COULD expect it later this year: https://lrmonline.com/news/third-king...

As I'm already almost two books in, I will see this trilogy to the end!

What do you ya'll think about Kvothe? For the most part, I liked his character, his attitude, his challenges, and his overcoming of those challenges. One thing that I found distracting at times was the fact that he seems to be "too good" at everything he does. Of course, some people are just naturals at certain things, but he seems to be great at everything. I guess I tend to like characters who have a harder time with such things.

A.D. Green | 3 comments To be honest I have read The Name of the Wind when it first came out. Rothfus had a lot of hype at the time and to be honest I can't recall the book that well except it was written in a fresh way. It was written well but didn't engage me.....however, my son loves the book and I think I will reread it with a fresh perspective. maybe not such high expectations. Then catch you up Book Two.
