So late to this but finally got the book started!


Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[ I know it's such early days, but I'm already intrigued by what's going to happen! I tried listening to the audiobook multiple times but couldn't quite get into it - paperback definitely working for me though. Really want to see what the deal is with Lord Asriel and to learn more about this world and its daemons - love how they are basically irl spirit animals! (hide spoiler)]

I'm really wanting to like this but so far I'm just not connecting at all...hopefully it improves the more I get into the story.

I'm still struggling some, there are just so many characters and I think I'm just struggling from starting out not paying as great of attention as I needed to be to the details. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[This chapter was a good one. Lyra was so smart tricking the king of the bears into that fight with Iorek, I'm so glad she got to tell him before. He also got the fight he'd been wanting and won! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I can't believe Lord Asriel betrayed Lyra and took Roger as the child to be used to open the field between universes or whatever!! After the ENTIRE book Lyra's trying to save Roger, and does, only to have such a horrible betrayal by her newly discovered father whom she previously admired. Poor Lyra.
I'm so glad Lyra and Pan didn't get separated with that horrible guillotine thing either. That was possibly the saddest part of the story that this was being done to the children and their daemons!

So it ended up being better than I first thought, but I don't think I'll continue on with the series at this point. It may have just not been for me. (hide spoiler)]
