PattyMacDotComma wrote: "I am on tenterhooks now, waiting to see where Gregg Hurwitz takes the Nowhere Man next! Terrific, disturbingly real warfare concerns in Prodigal Son..."I have that to read next! I'm hoping to start within a week. I love the Orphan X series. Glad to see it is going to be another great installment.
Reading Her One Mistake
. It's really good so far (about 60%). I'm hoping to finish it by tomorrow night.
Melissa wrote: "re-reading A Man Called Ove. I just need to re visit it again. luv this book!! :)"Me, too, Melissa!
Frederik Backman's thought-provoking short novella, The Deal of a Lifetime is about a meeting between a somewhat estranged father and son that happens to take place on Christmas Eve. Loved it!

Jennifer just wanted to kill someone, make the world a better place, but Judy Fitzwater's aspiring murder mystery writer, who was Dying to Get Published, had a lot of (amusing) trouble getting her act together in real life.

Kev wrote: "I'm currently reading A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay.. It's pretty good so far and I'm about just under half way?!"I really enjoyed Head Full of Ghosts! Interesting to hear what you think when you finish.
Tweet-length "fiction". I love, love, love wise sayings, witticisms, simple fun. I am too wordy - these guys are not. A Small Fiction by brothers James Mark Miller and Jefferson Miller is a sheer delight. Funny, clever, excellent!

John Lennon by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara is a beaut little kids' book about his life and the Beatles. This is a lovely little tribute to the musical genius we lost to a gunman 40 years ago this month. 40 years!

UnWhollyI started reading the second book in the unwind series. Really enjoying the writing style and the story of these characters. Lets hope the second book fares as well as the first, which isn't usually the case .-.
The Collectors Society by Heather Lyons. This book is amazing so far! I've never read anything that comes close to this book. The premise is one of the most original that I've come across. Highly recommend!!!!
I finished a short story / novelette in the Sigma Force series. Crash and Burn
by James Rollins.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I've started The Kaiser's Web
by Steve Berry.
It took me a little persistence at the beginning but it was well worth the effort. Laura Restrepo's
Delirium deserved winning the Alfaguara prize for a tale of madness set in 1983 Colombia. My review - www.Goodreads.com/review/show/3697266099
Currently reading Heartbreak Bay
, which I believe will be the last in the Stillhouse Lake series. Rachel Caine sadly passed away a couple of months ago and I don't think anyone else is picking it up.
I just finished Just After Sunset by Stephen King. Very interesting for me. I loved his short stories and it is interesting to see his return to them with this book. Better polished than the past, but missing some of the rawness that made the earlier ones so enjoyable. This is a good one.
Salma wrote: "Just curious- why didn't you like Great Expectations?"Salma, it's been too long ago for me to give you an intelligent answer. That class was led by one of the boring teachers. He kept us plodding through a 2-week period with constant quizzes to ensure that we had read the book. Unfortunately, I remember the negative feeling as opposed to any scintillating discussion as to any relevant themes expressed in that book.
What did you like about it?
Celine I read very fast and Celine you need to keep up with me and oh ok Celine and that’s cool Celine
The last nonfiction I finished was
The Disordered Mind: What Unusual Brains Tell Us About Ourselves by Eric R. Kandel, who had won the Nobel prize for his research into memory. My review - www.Goodreads.com/review/show/3648998200
Katrina wrote: "Just finished The Wife Upstairs & now almost finished Then She Was Gone"What did you think of The Wife Upstairs? I'm just starting it.
Currently reading: New Boy by Tracy Chevalier Unbury Carol by Josh Malerman
River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey
All pretty different from each other! I like to keep my reading varied.
I'm finishing off the cousins by Karen McManus and I'm thinking of what to read next. can u plz vote in this pool to help me choose :) https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...
thank u!!
I finished a short story: Robert & Therese Guillard: Choices
by L.A. Starks.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My first review for the year is for the worthy Pulitzer Prize winner Beloved by Toni Morrison. It's hard to understand the kind of treatment 'former' slaves still endured after the end of the Civil War. Technically, it's an easy read; emotionally, it's a heartbreaker.

My first book of 2021 was more lighthearted. We know from the title to look forward to The Great Escape from Woodlands Nursing Home, but it's an after dark innovation suggested by author Joanna Nell that interests me. I do love a good idea.
3.5★ rounded up Link to my Great Escape From Woodlands review
Started an Agatha Christie (perfect for NYC winter days :-)) - The Moving Finger. Also picked up this memoir, which looks really interesting- will start it later: Educated

I thought Educated was really good, Salma. Crazy how she grew up.
I'm planning to finish The Wife Upstairs
today. I need to get the review in today. I've just started Prodigal Son
. This is also for review, but it doesn't publish until the 26th so I have a little time. I'm really looking forward to it. I love the Orphan X series. I plan to start If It Bleeds
tomorrow. Short stories aren't typically my favorites, but I love Stephen King's writing and Holly Gibney is a great character so it's another one that I'm really looking forward to.

lol- yeah, boring teachers will do that, unfortunately. I also read it a long time ago (high school)- at the time I just connected to Pip. I do remember that I kind of skimmed through the last quarter of the book- though, unfortunately, Dickens tends to bring that habit out in me. I will say that I preferred David Copperfield (which I read more recently) to GE

Oh- I'm glad you read it! I've only looked at the first few pages, but I can tell I'll like her writing style. Even though it's a memoir, it's probably going to feel like reading a novel!
