SANDYE (sandye_c) Hi! I just joined the group and was wondering if I join the June 2020 monthly challenge, can I include the 2 books I've finished in June already, or can I only include books read after I've joined the group?

Kristie | 5928 comments Hi, Sandye! Welcome to the group! If you read the book in June you can count it, even if it was before you joined the group.

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments Question. Wheres the topics (list of what to read) for Popsugar Reading Challenge?

message 4: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Hi Kay -

All of the challenges can be found in the challenge folder.

The Popsugar challenge can be found here.

You can edit your original post to keep track, but feel free to comment which books you've read in that thread as well.

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments For Popsugar, can a book count towards two categories?

Kristie | 5928 comments Kay wrote: "For Popsugar, can a book count towards two categories?"

Nope. Each book can only be used for one task.

message 9: by Kay (new)

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments Another question. Is the Bingo challenge going to happen again?

message 10: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments That’s an ongoing challenge, Kay. You can join it at any time. You can either play individually or request other people to play with you. We did not assign teams.

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments Some questions

1) Does a retelling on wattpad count?

2) Is Twilight counted as a magical realism?

3) For task 24 of Popsugar, does the pet have to live through a seriez?

message 12: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments 1) Sure, as long as you know it is a retelling.

2) I don't think so. Magical realism is usually more realistic with a hint of magic. Vampires are more paranormal. If you look at the main page of books her on Goodreads, some of them are tagged magical realism. Goodreads has a few lists that might help here: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...

3) I'm not sure what you are referring to here. None of the tasks require pets.

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments Alright. Must be another challenge. Sorry about that.

And thanks for the other answers

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments Last year or in 2019 was there a challenge here (in this group) to read as many books as possible in 24 hours? If so, will that happen again?

I'm not sure if that was in this group. We could definitely add a read-a-thon though. I always like those. Let me work it out.

message 16: by Lehar (new)

Lehar | 38 comments Hi, I joined the PopSugar and A-Z challenge on 1st Feb. Can I use the books read in January to update the list?

message 17: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Sure. As long as they were read in 2021, you're good to go.

message 18: by Haylie (new)

Haylie Garner (hayliegarner) | 23 comments For the 2024 Zodiac challenge, is it okay if I post the challenge on my instagram story with the rules, to keep track of my progress? and if other people want to join even if there not a part of the group on here?

message 19: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 35 comments Are there any limits or requirements on the books (page #, re-reads, formats, books not eligible - e.g. cookery or graphic novels) in this group?

message 20: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments If there are requirements or limitations, they are listed under the challenges. For the chain game, there aren't any. :)

message 21: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments @Haylie,

apologies, I missed your earlier post with the question.

Sure, you can share the challenge on Instagram, if you still want to. :)

message 22: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments For the UNO challenge, do we use the most rated book's page count or the edition we're reading?

message 23: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Alway the edition you are reading. :)

message 24: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments Thank you, Melindam. :)

message 25: by Nike (last edited Mar 14, 2024 11:06AM) (new)

Nike | 65 comments I'd love to get a list with suggestions of books with the word Zodiac in the text. The few I've found that interests me with Zodiac in the title is not to be found translated to my language and the English versions are more expensive. There is only one with the word in the title that I can get to a good prize and that seems interesting so I'd love a compilation of titles with the word somewhere in the text.

I've searched through the other participants' lists and I've found one which might interest me but I'd love more suggestions. I haven't found a GR list. Is there any such list hidden away somewhere? Thank you 🙂🙏

message 26: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Nike - The first thing I thought of was that I knew there was a book about the zodiac killer. I don't know if you're interested in true crime or if any of these would be available in your language, but apparently there are several zodiac killer books and GR has made a list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Not sure if any of these fit, but here is the zodiac list as well: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Thank you so much but I've seen movies and TV-series about the Zodiac Killer so I'm not that interested in reading about it also. One of the two books I might consider reading is a Japanese crime classic about a zodiac killer in Tokyo, that one I can get in English. Apart from that I could of course choose a book in astrology but I'm more interested in finding another fiction novel about something completely different which happens to just mention the word in a chapter or so.

Like with the word Horoscope. I just read an Indian crime novel, and since astrology is so important in India one chapter was suddenly about investigating a potential husband that a family had found for their daughter after consulting a professional astrologer who made the most detailed horoscopes. The word was mentioned a few times so I used it for the prompt here.

(I'm not that interested in reading the phantasy book mentioned not because it's phantasy but because they seem to contain to much teenage romance for my taste. I really don't like romance so therefore I don't like those romantic phantasy books for NA.)

But I might just look for a book in astrology in Swedish. 🙂

Thank you for your kind approach Kristie, I appreciate your kindness ⊂(◉‿◉)つ

Christine | 16 comments Ah, found this thread.

In the World Book Challenge is it possible to create a link to individual’s post to make it easier to find one’s list as I presume the thread will be quite long throughout the year. Most challenges seem to be quite a few pages and has an html link of individuals at the top of the thread of those participating as an ease of use.

Hi Christine,

If it helps, I can create a thread called Perks challenge monitoring or sth like that, where under you can create your own folder and collect the links to your challenges.

Melindam | 4427 comments Update:

I have created a thread and you should be able to create your own folder underneath for tracking challenges. Please let me know if it doesn't work.
